Tc barlows & mind blowing sheath give-away**WINNERS ANNOUNCED**

Well thanks all! I have official become a shut-in. By the time this thread is over I will have to crawl away from my computer, shave the 6 inch beard, squint as my eyes acclimate to the sun light, say hello to my family, and re-associate my self with society. And HOPEFULY await the delivery of my very first Charlow.
This has become the most epic, generous, and just plain mind blowing thread I've been a part of. As stated by many others, even if I don't win, at least I was able to be a part of this superb thread.

Now, lets see how many new post were made while I was typing(and editing) this.

This is by far the best GAW ever on bladeforums (that I have seen) Please include me. I own one TC barlow atm btw fyi ~

I'll answer a few of the questions.

1.) I think the 48s will be semi collectable. I say this because I love the design :)

2.) I'd like the graphics to remain simple like they have been. I really like the "real sheepfoot barlow" etch they used on the sheepfoot TCs.

I'll stick to answering these two questions, Thanks again to the very generous people who have donated to gift in this thread.

Duncan - Wow! Our thread has got it all: beautiful Charlows up for grabs, beautiful knife sheaths, rumors of impending new Charlows, pseudo Civil War generals, and nuclear warheads. The only thing I can think of that would make it even more epic is, well, more cowbell.

GT, that lacing stitch is called the "double loop"; you'll have to google it to find instructions and it is a little complicated. Good luck!

Thanks for the info, Barry. That double loop stitching looks super, but I'm sure not going to try it anytime soon! Both of the sheaths you're offering are stunners! Thanks for offering them.

-GT

Well, what can i say. Dont have one, probably wont get one unless i win a giveaway...
so i gotta try :P

1,What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?

- I liking the 66 jack and it seems to be an awfully popular model, that would be my guess. The underrated sleeper that in the future folks will wish they got their hands on.

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?

-not a huge etching fan, tend to patina over them pretty quick. But yeah the Genuine Barlow etch is pretty classy

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?

-They are just pretty knives. I especially like the sheepsfoot and the long pull spear

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ).

-I dont deserve to win, but i would like to. Besides the only barlow i have is a rough rider. I HAD a boker barlow but had to return and exchange it due to excessive blade play :/

I came here to hijack a picture for another thread and what do I find? More knives than I can shake my head at!

Gorgeous slips there, Barry. You are a much more talented man than I.

I think the elusive Schrade 8 OT will be a much sought after 21st century - what was the wording on the question I was supposed to answer again???

Unfortunately all my Charlows are at home. Just as well as I take lousy phone pictures anyways. Never remember to set up that fancy little light tent I bought...

What did I come for here again? Oh yeah, that picture...

Not an entry - just a big thanks to all of you guys involved of this great act of generosity !

Many many thanks to have you buys around here.

Iwould like a shot at one of the knives because I've never owned one. This is an outrageous GAW. Good Luck! to all
and Thanks!

Once again the amazing generosity and gracious spirit of the Traditional crowd has roused me out of an otherwise grumpy mood. A very big thanks to Duncan, Paul, Stephen and Barry for offering up such prized possessions to make things brighter for those around them. And a hearty thanks to Charlie for taking his dream and insisting it become a reality for everyone else. And how can we forget to thank Great Eastern for flawlessly executing Charlie's designs and giving us these beautiful knives! While I've never owned or handled a Charlow, I, like many here, I'm sure, have long dreamed of owning one. For so long its always been my "one day" knife, as in One day I'll have one. It funny how there's a certain trepidation about approaching the ideal. A concern that once you start you wont be able to stop. LOL. The passion surrounding these knives definitely contributed to my enthusiasm for Traditional patterns and the Barlow in particular.

1,What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?

This is a tough one. For the sake of the challenge I'll exclude other 15 patterns. For a while now I have been quite enamored with GEC's take on the Toothpick. The Tidioute Smooth White Bone Toothpick was my first GEC and it has taken a special place in my heart. Solid, elegant and still rugged enough for harder work. It a classic along the lines of the Barlow but seems to trace it routes to another lineage (navaja, Laguiole, etc) while still being uniquely American. And GEC's Toothpick is for me the perfect example of the pattern. Plus, like the Charlow, it sports a classy extra long bolster, though on the other end.

2,What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?

I really liked the Radio Jack etchings, both the plain RADIO with lighting bolts and Barry's classic design. In my experience with classic Blade etches they sport the Brand name. The TC Bolster is nice in that it cover both "Tidioute Cutlery" and 'Tom's Choice." I could definitely see an etch for the Charlow that reads "Huckleberry's Friend" in a fine classic font. Would nicely emphasize how these guys become a real companion to carry on your way.

3,Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?

Until the TC Barlow came along it seems like the Barlow was almost forgotten as far as American productions were concerned. Case hasn't produced one in a very long time and while GEC's 25 are very nice, the 3 inch frame and fully rounded top bolster never quite hit the same sweet spot in conjuring up the Platonic ideal of the Barlow the way the Charlow does. I have to say my very favorite charlow design is the 2 blade, Long pull clip Main, pen secondary. As far as covers I'm going to ay that Sawcut Bone is the winner. All of the cover offerings are exquisite, but the sawcut just reminds me most of the barlows I've seen the most.

4,Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ).

Well lets be honest the knife itself just stills my heart. All I can say is I deeply appreciate the history of these knives and what they conjure forth like talisman's to a bygone era. Both of my grandfathers carried these types of knives, but sadly by the time they passed on they were either lost or sold off before I could try to claim them. I still wish I could have at least seen them before they were gone. I've never owned a modern knife and have no interest in them, so for me, these Charlows are tops. I need to use a knife to really appreciate it. For me it doesn't really show its spirit until its in pocket and at the ready. So I can assure those generous givers that if I were to be choen to receive any one of these offering their knife will be used and well cared for... and ongoing visitation rights, birthday photos, trips to the zoo LOL shall be granted.

Well thank for the opportunity. And good luck to everyone.

This thread's a vortex of generosity:)

I'll take a shot at the questions thank you:thumbup:

1. We are in a fortunate era, the last decade or so has seen a lot of excellence in Traditional knives so we are spoiled for choice (how lucky) The CASE Swayback Jack is one, so too the GEC 25 or anything they've issued in their remarkable stag for that matter, stag will be more and more sought after.

2. The graphics have been tasteful so far (not easy). Perhaps 'Twain's Fancy' in honour of the great iconic American writer. A stamped blade like some European knives still sport would be worthwhile too.

3. Proportions! They are excellent on this knife, outstanding blade/handle ratio which gives aesthetic appeal and important balance to this Barlow. Stamped bolster is a hallmark of quality, there are engraved bolsters I've seen but the effect is discouraging, not keen on naked bolsters either, this one is the bolster to aim for. I greatly prefer the single-blade model. Where have all the Soup Bones gone???

4. Well, I'd be very pleased to win indeed and as always hope for the best, this thread proves that. In addition, this bloke could do with some company:D:D

Evenin' all!

Well now, first I want to echo the thoughts of many and say thank you to a few esteemed members and giveaway contributors.

Firstly to Charlie (Waynorth) Campagna for were it not for your continued work these masterpieces wouldn't have sent Duncan over the edge. You are an ambassador for all traditional pocket knife enthusiasts.

Duncan, Cambellclanman, you are such a decent chap, and you have created an amazing giveaway. Ne Obliviscaris! With that kind of generosity we certainly won't this time.

Stephen (Old & In The Way), Paul (paulhilborn) and Barry (gunstockjack), I don't know what to say other than offer my thanks. What a gesture! You are all superb fellas. I hope I haven't missed anyone, there have been so many people getting involved that I'm losing track!

Gentlemen, thank you!

I'll play the game;

1. What 21st century model production traditional folder besides the TC Barlow do you think will be a desirable collectible in the future?

They already are, but the GEC 25 WLSTs will continue to pick up momentum I think.

2. What etching/graphics would you like to see on a TC Barlow blade?

I'm sure I'm not the first to say it but "Charlie's Own" for the final run would be apt. Nice and deep so that it doesn't fade out.

3. Why you like the TC Barlow - in what design?

I discovered a while ago that I like two blades on a knife the sheepsfoot duo takes my top spot. The reason they appeal to me is mostly due to the effort and determination put in by the maker. Each tube carries the words from the man himself with a little about what's inside. Anyone who took the time to read the dedicated "what makes..." thread can see how much they mean to Charlie, more than they do to any of us. The walnut gunstock and the Stews blade being the crowning moments for me.

4. Why you think you should win a TC barlow ( this may be a hard one to answer - but give it a shot ).

I had one. Circumstances meant that I had to sell it but it went to a very enthusiastic collector who really deserved it and who cherishes it. I certainly don't regret it and I take pride when I see pictures of it popping up in the various threads because I knew that for the time it was with me I used it and I worked it hard whilst in my charge. It stood up to me admirably!

I had my Charlow, maybe one day I'll get another but this time I think that someone who hasn't had the pleasure should get the chance. Duncan, I know you'll ignore it but I'm saying it anyway

"This is not an entry!" :)

Paul

Edit: John (Chief) I somehow completely missed your post about the clip Charlow. You have my apologies sir, I hope you will forgive me. Such generous members we have here.
