TechStudio K01 Profile Sharpening System

What's the price of the new KO2 LE ?
Do you have a picture of the upcoming KO3 and the new improvements ?
If I ordered the KO2, would it have the rack and pinion adjustment, would love to have that feature ?

Sam
I have a PDF file of the catalog that shows all possible models, but that is 55 MB. If you pm me on our website, I will send you a copy of the file. We can order any of the models, but we try to stock only those models that are in higher demand.

As Wade says below, the K02 LE does not have a lifting unit or rack and pinion mechanism. To be clear, K02's cannot be retrofitted to the K03 (or as the factory calls it, K02 with lifting body). That is the reason we have stuck with the original designation by TSProf when they first announced it of "K03".

The rack and pinion is 100 bucks more if you order it from Tsprof's site and if I remember correctly it is the same amount to add that feature if purchased from STATES,if you want my honest opinion and I have 2 K02's one with the rack and pinion and the other without there is no time saving advantage and the rack and pinion is not as smooth as you think it would be.When you use the K02 you are making the big adjustment with the knob at the back and pull the lifting up or down until you get it close with the angle cube then from there on you use the other adjuster on the lifting unit near the top head to dial in your angle and each time you change a stone you need to re-check the angle because coarser grit stones wear faster then finer grit stones and you will use the fine angle adjuster to make a change if needed.

Unless you are going to use stones of different size's that vary a great deal in thickness that is the only time you need to worry about using the back knob to make adjustment's,if you ask me an extra 100 for a rack and pinion lifting unit is not worth it when in most case's you are only going to use it once each time you sharpen a knife.

Any reason why the rack and pinion doesn't seem as smooth as it should, resolution, machining etc.?
Looks like from the pictures the machine work looks great.

The tube that the long threaded rod goes into is not as a tight of a fit as it could be and they cut teeth into the tube to make the rack part of the system also the tube is made out of aluminum and I'm wondering if the tube is going to hold up over time because if the teeth strip then you going to be needing to replace the tube.

Try understand that the rack and pinion lifting unit is not a must have part for the K02 and like I said before is a 100 bucks worth it for the lifting unit just so you can to friends watch what this this fancy knob does on the side I only need to it once to make a major angle adjustment when I sharpen a knife the rest I do with the this other thing that makes fine adjustment's.It's just fishing lures i you talk to a lot of people who fish a lot they will tell you as the old saying goes I think the lures are designed to catch more people then are fish, and what the saying is trying to tell is the fishing lure company's know that there are people out there that will fork out money for a new lure just based on its look's and nothing else and it's I know a few guys that have box's tackle and have not gone fishing in 4 years but are always buying tackle.

Don't think I'm bashing Tsprof because I'm not and the lifting does work but at the end of the day why did thy make the newer lifting unit when the old version worked just fine and if you want you can give them 100 reason's why they made the newer lifting unit just as I did.

Thanks for the explanation, will stick with the K02.
Sometimes we all want the latest gadget. Maybe that's why Apple is so
successful with the Iphone.
Just had a bad experience with a dealer in California that sells the K02.
Called him to see if he had any in stock, he had stock but said go to his ebay
site to order. Checked ebay site, the price was ok, emailed him that I would be
placing an order later that day, Guess what, when I went back to order the K02
he had jacked the price up $20. Emailed him about the price increase, he said the USA was a free market and would do as he pleased.
Told him the USA is a free market but it has rules, laws and ethics that have to be followed.
The Russians have an excellent product and hope they have success in the USA.
They need to vet and check out their dealers when they set them up.
Will try to order from the S.T.A.T.S guys for an K02.
They seem to have their act together and are in it for the long run.
Thanks for listening to my diatribe.
The Wicked Edge is looking better and better.

If I were you deal with George from STATES I can vouch for him and say that he is a very honest person I will not try anything sneaky or underhanded when dealing with him,I have made at 3 to 4 purchase's from George and he always been very honest and upfront and tried any BS with me.

If I were you and this is not a brand bias thing with me either but I can tell you from owning many different guided systems over the years I think the K02 is the best by far and is worth the wait i you have to wait to get one and I'm sure you'll be happy you did,the down fall of the Wicked Edge for me not buying one when I was looking at changing from the KME was the clamping system on the WE and they were having problems and I have threw enough of that in the past, with the K02 the best part is they have a lot of different clamp styles and the way you can clamp the knife into the system to over come a weird shaped knife.

The thing that drew me to the K02 was the fact I need to buy one stone for each time I ordered stones where with the WE you need to order 2 stones each time driving the cost up and the biggest factor for me was also stone selection, for example some of the best diamond stones for doing a toothy edge of just plain and simply cutting threw steel's like S110v are the Venev stones and also the Metallic boned CBN stones that will outlast a diamond plate or any type of diamond that is electroplated onto a plate also when you look at Congress Tools they make MoldMaster and another one called Fine and Super witch are great cheap stone you can glue up yourself and really save money at about 10 bucks a stone that are 1x1x6 and are great for doing average steels and the MoldMasters are good for steels like M4.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying I don't the Wicked Edge company or Clay the owner as he is known as a super nice guy and really takes of his customers but for me I'll take a system that works great and stone and clamp selection any day over pretty much anything else.

What exactly is the lifting body?

That's the part that cost's a 100 bucks that we were calling the rack and pinion lifting unit.
What Tsprof call's the frame most people in Canada and the USA refer to as the crossbar,it just a translation thing.

We started shipping K02 LE Standard kits from actual inventory today. Wow. It feels great to say to folks, we got'em and can ship next business day.

I've corrected our website because I thought we were getting the K02 LE Extended version but got the Standard version instead. Please be aware that the Standard has only 3 stones (120, 220 and 400 grit) and no digital angle gage. You can either wait for the "angle cubes" that I ordered from Amazon to arrive this coming Monday, get them yourself, or wait the 3 weeks TSProf told me it will take to get the 2 stones + digital gages I thought I was getting. For info, the K02 LE Standard is running $395 from us, a savings of $60 vs. the Extended.

George
PS I had a great time with Paul at Blade Show!

To clarify, for those who paid 455 for what was depicted on the website, will get the gauge and all the stones, correct? Not that I care for the stones or the gauge but if this is not true, I haven't seen a refund of the difference.

When people place an order with us, they are giving a "payment authorization" to S.T.A.T.E.S. We do not take any money from the payment authorization until we actually ship, so there is nothing to refund. In fact, 98% of the payment authorizations expired in the past year because it was 2 to 7 months before we got anything from the factory to ship. [The payment authorization is only good for 30 days to protect the buyer.] Just before the order is fulfilled, we will contact the customer and explain the situation. Then we will only "capture" $395 instead of $455. Again, there will be nothing to refund. We take great pains to be 100% honest and trustworthy with your money. Our CEO is a carpenter.

Got it, thanks! Also.. thanks for the quick shipment

K02 LE Standard kits are in stock. We have received 600 grit stones from Congress Tools to substitute for the 600 grit of the Extended version. Tomorrow, Friday, we will receive Angle Cube digital angle gages to substitute for the missing TSProf digital gage. SO, the Standard and the Extended versions (effectively) are both in stock ready to ship to you the next business day. Only 31 kits left.
NO WAITING...GET'EM WHILE YOU CAN or wait months more...

George

do you have some low angle single clamps with the type 2 fixing units? I could also use a couple of the threaded steel knobs if you have spares.
