Terrible experience with SmedleyButler

I bought a ZT0454 from Rounic a couple days ago. Should be here Monday. The deal was smooth and he gave me a couple days to pay because I was in the middle of having cash transferred to paypal. I had the sense in our PM conversation he was a good guy, thanks again!:)

The deal he made with SmedleyButler turned into crap obviously. Mistakes were made (from my point of view) by both guys. Rounic is on here trying to resolve the problem and seems to be taking the suggestions given by everyone well.

SmedleyButler is not coming across so well. That's his choice and he'll deal with the consequences.

What I don't get (and this happens a lot here in GBU) is why people create more drama than is already taking place. For example is it really necessary to call SmedleyButler names? What is the purpose and what good does it do except piss off SmedleyButler and make him not want to respond. As another example, claiming he was going to switch the knife for a clone. It's a long way from buyers remorse or believing the knife he received is a clone to now actively deceiving and lying to get a free knife. How would any of us know that?

I followed this thread because I had a deal going with Rounic. I also try and follow threads like this to make sure I know who to trust and who to be cautious with in the future. To me personally I get frustrated having to wade through nonsense to find the real and valuable information.

Anyway I don't want to criticize as we are all free to post what we want within the rules. Maybe just spend a few more minutes thinking your thoughts out and if it's not really adding anything of relevance or value then let it go and post somewhere else.

You definitely have a point in general, however I think that if anyone here made any overzealous statements it wasn't due to bad intent. As far as internet discussions go - this is quite tame all things considered. Still, you are right... I do ask everyone to please keep their cool. I really appreciate your support and this community in whole is top notch guys., let's stay above the level of trashing without knowing the facts please, you are better than that. I know we can speculate and trust me - I've run a lot of possible scenarios through my head as to why this happened but facts are facts and as much as I want to understand "why" - all I really have is what I posted here: a bad call to trust someone i shouldn't have and all the consequences resulting from that. Fools (like me) learn from their mistakes while smart guys learn from others' - hence my original post: learn and prosper guys... and respect your fellow man.

In whole I believe you all helped to nudge this issue towards a positive outcome and you have my gratitude.

PS: for what it's worth - I too am trying real hard to walk the righteous path (and not call someone names)... my wallet is still in the bag though.

We have seen this pattern of behavior before, so while it is hypothesis that he will switch it for a clone, it is not without historical precedent. It goes like this...

1. Buyer buys knife. Or in this case, doesn't buy knife.
2. Buyer receives knife and throws a stink, claiming it is fake.
3. Buyer sends seller a fake, the seller then has to defend against claims that the knife is fake and actual evidence that there IS a fake, now that it is in the seller's hands.

If the buyer doesn't document, with photos, the alleged fake, then the seller cannot compare the "received" knife to the one in the sale thread. The case becomes hard to defend and the buyer, if successful, buys a $20 knife and gets a $700 one (for instance).

If this isn't what is happening here, then we wouldn't know it because it follows the pattern to a T. Hopefully this clarifies it.

Fair enough, I understand the risk that you are identifying and it is definitely real. My point though is different.

The knife is being mailed back. Rounic is already stressed out and feeling frustrated. He's waiting on the knife and will only know if it's a fake when he gets it back. Besides additional drama what does assuming SmedleyButler is scamming Rounic accomplish? We'll all know soon enough right.

Also, SmedleyButler resorted to insults and name calling. I've done it, we probably all have. Emotions can make us all do stupid things right. In this case though I think he went way too far and looks bad. It will effect his future dealings here negatively guaranteed.

What about all the other people resorting to name calling and insults? They get a free pass because SmedleyButler started it.

Can't we wait until all the facts (or at least what the actual parties involved are divulging) are known.

Robcelani has it right.
The inflammatory and inciteful speculations and commentary do no one any good, least of all the two parties actually involved in the situation. It accomplishes more harm than good and not only serves to make those posting it look bad, but the forum as well. Best to let things play out as they will and make do with actual fact.

And that would make BFC just another forum. This is GB&U and threads like these makes for great community involvement. The Good threads in this section get one or two replies and just as many views, threads like these grow pages long, have hundreds even thousands of views and take on a life of their own.
People take sides when stuff like this happens and voice their displeasure by changing the bad actors user name. That's just never going to change.

Opinions are like......................................well you know the rest!!

The real Smedley Butler, twice the recipient of the Medal of Honor and the most highly decorated Marine in history at the time of his death, is likely rolling in his grave having his name dragged through the gutter like this.

Agree with this...terrible situation all the way around.

Smedley was on this site at 7:22AM this morning and has not responded, and you know this is the first thread he looks at.

I always like it when a statement starts: " I do not want to......but,......" Yes you do; that is why you typed it. The point you intended to make is somewhat valid at times here. There is no need to go jumping to conclusions and making accusations that do not hold merit yet. My statement of his dealings looking smelly is based on facts. At this point we all know at the minimum what the buyer has done here is not within our honor system, plus he is rude and threatens the OP.
So yes, he is the Smelly Butler......that is what I will call him.

Has he recieved the knife back?

No it just started moving a day ago. I'm locking this until Rounic gets a box in the mail. Let me know and we can revisit this. Until then we need to keep things in perspective and stop drawing every conclusion under the sun.

Rounic has informed me that his knife has arrived in the same consition as it was shipped. I will allow him to relist it based on the issues here that were mostly put of his control. In the future people should always be cautious and do their own due diligence before making transaction. I am glad things worked out.
