Texas Camp Knife!

but with no bail and no caplifter/screwdriver? guess i'll still have to carry a, ahem...few more knives still;). this is going to be fantastic! what are you considering for the scales? man-made materials would be a nice option, amidst all the beautiful bone, horn, and wood that we commonly see. but whose kidding who? i want one already.:) thanks waynorth, you really are like santa claus. Neal

According to the first post in the thread, the schematic for the camp knife includes a bail along with the master clip, secondary sheepsfoot, punch and can opener. What's a Texas scout without a big honkin' lanyard, anyway? ;)

While I like the inclusion of the sheepsfoot blade I do wonder about the can opener being included over the caplifter. I guess you folks lucky enough to have a beer scout don't mind as much, but I think all four blades would get a lot of use from me if they were clip/sheep/punch/caplifter. Maybe there will be a variation available down the road, perhaps including a master spear instead of a clip (says the hopeful future owner :p).

Of course, I could just carry this thing in the watch pocket and be done with it :D:

checked the gec updated production schedule and notice several listings for waynorth sfos and a list of scales for the camp knife. if i'm reading this correctly there should be three versions to choose from! ain't that just ducky!:) Neal

I see the Oregon Knife Collector version with a beaver on handle is in their Feb. newsletter. $155.00 to club members so I assume that is an indication of what the standard models will run.

For those interested in punches, here is the rough forge (GEC's first) for the Texas Camp!

Of course there is a lot of finish grinding that needs to be done. This punch should be a nice, smooth-operating tool! I am excited!!
:D

Any chance of seeing a sketch of what to expect, Charlie? GEC took them off their site... inquiring minds want to know!!

The sketch is in the 1st post of this topic.

My jaw is on the floor! That's awesome!

Well, this was the sketch, but it's gone from GEC's site and has been for a while. Wondering if things have changed some...

So... how long before we see hammer forged blades from GEC... or hand forged!?! ;) :D The forged punch is a really neat development. It reminds me a bit of the well shaped punches used on some of the old Remington knives. Forged blades used to be heavily emphasized in the old ads.

more strength in forged steel, generally speaking. my estwing hammers are drop-forged and relatively indestructible. not that it hasn't been tried:). nice looking punches too.
thanks, Neal

4.83" closed...whoa, that's a big one. Looks like it's going to be a beauty, especially with that first shield.

I only have one camp knife, the near ubiquitous US Army Engineers pocket knife of WWII vintage.

I like that camp knife!!!

Would that be a CZ 452 full stock there in that photo?

Perhaps I missed it above, but will the 98 have chamfered bolsters like the Northwoods Presidential. That is what I'm seeing in the sketch, can someone confirm?
Thx
