Great Scouts, Mark. They have beautiful overall appeal as well as being useful knives!!
I have been picking up the odd scout in researching for this Camp knife. I will have to do a group shot!
Photobucket is currently down - rats!!

Thanks Charlie!
No wonder I can't upload on photobucket right now. Oh well......looking forward to the group shot!

A beautiful knife Wazu

It might not be to everyones taste Charlie (or they are maybe missing the point), but it's great to see you and GEC pushing the envelope again, and I think this knife will look fantastic. I'm sure it'll do well

Those Camillus/Remingtons fell way short on workmanship. I bought two as Christmas presents for relatives at the time but never gave them the knives. No way was going to give kin anything that poorly put together. Still have the knives around here somewhere. I'm sure Great Eastern will do a much better job. At least in my opinion, they are the top slip-joint maker in the country these days.

I just can't let you get away with that. You must have received two duds. Camillus did a good - no great - job of making the Remington Bullet Camp Knife.

There's not a thing wrong with that knife and to top it off it's Stainless - 440.

Charlie - If you see this thread, I hope GEC can make their #98s as well as these and of course, use stainless.

Now around 1982/1983, Remington put out a Scout type knife called "I think" "End of Trail". There were a couple of minor problems as far as appearance goes with those knives but they were still well put together and totally useable.

I don't know what you think I'm getting away with but while most of those Camillus/Remington bullets were fairly low quality, the camp knife was just a step lower for some reason. I own a number of them and they are no where close to fit and finish of the Great Easterns I carry.

Totally agree. Zero problems with mine, too. I also think GEC will knock it out of the park with their model.

I cannot wait for these knives! I even stopped buying others, just to save up! Totally excited...

There are zero problems as a tool and there is poor fit and finish compared to the knife they were making a reproduction of. Camillus was no where close. Brass shaving sticking out of the back springs, weak opening and closing, poorly ground blades etc. etc. There is no doubt in my mind that Great Eastern's version will not have these problems.
I bought all most all of the Camillus/Remington bullet reproductions, one for a gift to a nephew and one for myself. None were especially will made but good enough I could live with it. The big camp knife proved to be the last straw for me. So remember here, I was buying at least two every year during those years. I'm not excepting that dud excuse.

It might even be interesting to see the tools in stainless and the blades in 1095. I'm not much of a stainless guy, but I do keep a stainless moose in the car that I never have to fuss over...

Oh geez, how have I missed this till now! Love the size. I was going to hold off on buying until the right GEC in stainless but something tells me 440C would be to much to hope for in these knives. If I had my druthers I'd have one of these in lovely green bone and 440C. Oh well April is my birth month! :D Edit: might I add, I've always loved the bolsters on my Presidential and I'm so glad to see them carried over here!

Getting this thread back on track to Charlie's SFO and the Texas Camp Knife, I think it'll be interesting to to see the final choices for the shield, blade steel, and cover material. I for one think it would be cool if one of the cover materials was jigged delrin.

It would be a traditional scale material while being rather impervious to the elements...

BIG IS GOOD.

Great size for a Camp knife.

Pic Bone like the earlier HJ Charlie, mind you the Jigg work that Bill is doing lately has been IMO outstanding.

I must say that the Early Utica is a very very nice knife, quite a find.

Especially in Stainless!! :D :D

My first knife was an old Kingston scout-type knife. As I recall, my mom bought it at a garage sale for 50 cents. I've always liked the idea of a camp knife, because the blades are just so darn useful. This one sounds like it might be too chunky to carry on a daily basis, but I love the idea nonetheless, since it will be perfect as a dedicated knife for camping/backpacking. Big enough to be really comfortable for extended use around the campsite.
