Texas Camp Knife!

I think this is how I feel. This is no doubt an awesome knife, but I would never give it a life it deserves. I'm so drawn to this knife...must resist buying frivolously.

CONGRATS to all who acquired one. :D

:D

+1 Every time I see a photo in this thread I have to remember / convince myself I don't need it.

I would agree. Where the P-38 makes small & precise cuts, the 98 takes much bigger bites. It has plenty of leverage, and seems almost effortless on an unsuspecting can. The P-38 makes a cleaner cut though.

Thanks. Useful comparison.

I was lucky enough to score one of these too, should be here tomorrow. Does anyone know how many were made of each handle type?

I want this one... Too bad I can't order anything online, nor am I aware of any GEC dealers around my area. Oh well, I'll just have to use my other numerous knives XD

I don't get it. What does that handgun have to do with the Camp Knife? Hopefully, they will one day put all handguns through junkyard metal shredders and ban their possession. I just come here for pictures of knives and the occasional pictures of pets, pipes, booze, and people's kids and grand kids and other family - not guns.

As an aside, the Camp Knife is a looker.

NOT going to happen.

As an aside, the can opener works for opening bottles too!

I received my cranberry camp knife yesterday. I compared it to my Camillus Cartridge Classic .270 knife. They are the same length, the Camillus being much wider. The blades are similar in size with the GEC being a bit longer and wider. The GEC also has a bigger sheepfoot blade. The Camillus has a cap lifter/screwdriver blade. The punch on the Camillus is much longer than the GEC.

The original post was not appropriate and quoting it only serves to exacerbate it. Back on topic, please. Which is what I requested a few posts back.

Nice comparison photos. I'm glad that they went with full flat grind. They did an exceptional job on the grind and taper. They did a super job on the forged awl as well. I'm not sure if I prefer the combination caplifter/screwdriver or the can opener. Some of the old scout knives had a double decker caplifter and can opener.

I agree Jake. The full flat grind looks and probably functions better that the Sabre grind.

Beautiful knife. Right now my 98 is in a forced coma, in a Buck 110 sheath. The bail is real tight on one side and after moving it a few times I noticed a semi circular trough being etched into the bolster. So I quit playing with it and gave it a time out.

Does anyone know the best way of spreading the bail. I dont want to mess it up by distorting the wire or poping it off the pin.
Maybe needldenose pliers inside of bail and spreading the pliers?

Wow...just wow. There are other countries that would take you immediately. It was a joke...

My smooth white bone should be here tomorrow. Cant wait to take it with me out to the range to test out the new 44 Mag.

I dropped mine in my front pocket the minute it arrived. Yeah, of course it's big, that's obvious. Maybe too big for some, but not me. It'll be great at camp, on road trips, in the kitchen. I love the history of camp knives and all that they remind me of. The quality of these are first-rate. No blade rub anywhere, not too hard to open at all. All three handles are just right, though it truth there isn't much distinction between the yellow and orange- I wonder if that'll change over time... anyway, this beast is a beauty!

???? Knife Content????

This stuff needs to stop now.
Return to the topic of the thread.
Gary has asked twice in this thread. I am asking once again.
Next time, infractions get issued.

I'm extremely impressed by the fact that that my knife has zero blade contact whatsoever. I think the giant liners have a lot to do with this, but even so there is a ton of steel tucked in a tight space. I look forward to seeing how these things age when put to some good use in the field!

I need to find someone to make a sheath for this behemoth. I'll be packing mine next weekend for trout camp and hope to use it to bust some trout bellies!

Has anybody bought bought both? I'd love to see some comparison pics. I can't figure out any difference at all, except that maybe the burnt orange looks a bit more pocket worn?

My Burnt Orange met a Cranberry friend yesterday. They're both great knives!!!

Here are all 3, side by side. I had to look at the edges really close to tell the difference between yellow & orange. Orange on top - yellow on the bottom.
