Texas Camp Knife!

Holy cow! This thing is HUGE! And, it's wonderful. Great job Charlie, ~P, and the folks at GEC! Good thing I brought the truck to the office today. :D

Just got my Cranberry in today. To echo BTM, holy crap! It's a monster. What a knife. Thanks Charlie. And thank you Barry for getting it out to me.

Received mine today, all I can say is wow. Great large knife, Charlie and GEC knocked this one out of the park.

Few pictures including one next to a Case Grand Daddy Barlow which is just a bit bigger.

This may be GEC's best effort yet. Nothing's perfect, but the Texas Camp Knife is close.

- The bail is stiff enough that it stays in the position to which it's moved. (some bails freely flop around... not this one)
- No sunken pins
- Pull is about a 6 for the blades and tools
- Blades and tools have silky walk/talk with firm half-stops
- Blade geometry/grind makes for great slicing
- At 6 5/8 ounces, it is 3 1/8 ounces heavier than a Camillus MIL-K camp/scout knife and 3 ounces heavier than a bone-handled Camillus WWII Army Engineers camp/scout knife
- But it doesn't feel heavy, because that 6 5/8 ounces is distributed across L 4 7/8" x H 3/4" x W 9/16"

With a Washington Jack. It's a beautiful beast.

Charlie's right. I don't need this knife... but I do love it!

Too large for me to to carry but they are beautiful knives. I don't see a photo of the well previously posted so I thought these photos might be helpful.

got home today and this was in the mail! This knife is awesome! Absolutely love it, it's truly a work of art. I dare you to hold one of these in your hand and then say theres not multiple things about it that you like. I can't wait to get it outdoors and put it to some good use. Outstanding job Charlie and GEC.

Here's some shots of the elusive antique yellow. Not as much yellow as in other runs but none the less it looks absolutely amazing. If you buy one of these purely as a collector and your goal is to keep it pristine just be careful with the bail as it may scuff your bolster up.

From the top down is where the yellow really shines on this one

One of all the tools

As mentioned previously it fits very nicely in a Buck 110 sheath

Size comparison with the #54, It is indeed Texas big!

Oh man, the comparison pics really put the size of this knife into perspective for me. WOW!!!!

If I would have gotten one, I have a nice piece of tow chain that would have made a great lanyard lol

Here is the hands on video guys! I can't help but chuckle handling this knife.

Got my orange #98 today ... very happy with it. Everything on the knife is on steroids! Huge clip that's easy to open, massive punch, and the opener looks like it will do some damage on a can of chicken! I was worried there might be some blade rub because everything is so massive, but plenty of space between the blades.

My burnt orange arrived today. The fit is absolutely outstanding. Looks pretty darn good too.

The comp pictures have been really useful, that thing's monster  With a weight of 187g (for the rest of the world...) it's a Pocket Battleship :D:D

As I've said before, too big for my style but you cannot fail to be impressed by this venture and the outcome.

Look forward to seeing more pix and then there's the Whittler looming large on the horizon, just when you thought it was safe....:eek:

I went away for the weekend but I cant believe these came out on friday and are all gone by wednesday.
Avoiding the most obvious answers where are these being sold.? I'm puzzled.

Just a heads up! You will not get any answers about purchasing on the postings. you will have to PM or e-mail others. We are not allowed to discuss the why's, where's and how's on purchasing.

It is absurdly large. I'm a scout knife collector, so I was forced to pick up a few. But I'm not sure if they'll ever get used. When I need a knife this large, it usually means that I'm doing something stupid, and should probably have a lock on the blade. But time will tell. One will be for playing with, so I'll it a good test on my outdoor trips.

I do love how GEC managed the camp knife's degree of complication. A lot of camp knives have been made over the last century, and most all of them have been nightmares of fit. The blades usually rub. The knives themselves are often enormously thick, with blades crinked at odd angles. Some look like a child's attempt to put together a puzzle. I mean it. A lot camp knives are positively hideous in their level of refinement. Somehow GEC got everything right. The knife isn't overly thick. There's no blade rub, even when opening the awl. All of the blades are tight, with no wobble, which is a huge feat in itself. Half stops all around. The Texas Camp knife is probably the best made scout pattern I've encountered. It's at least as good as my WW2 Camillus Engineer's knife.

Now I'll just pray that GEC learned enough from this venture, that they'll be confident enough to go ahead and make a true scout in the traditional 3 5/8" size. I'd really like something of this quality that's of a more useful size.

It is absurdly large.

Ah, yes..... yes it is!!

I figure an absurdly large scout knife needs an absurdly large lanyard to go along with it. :D :D

Properly sharpened last night (mine was GEC dull...), it's my carry today - just -barely- fits in a Northwoods slip sheath. Had to wear jeans to the office today though, I don't think slacks would hold this monster up!!

Thanks for making that video, it really puts the knife in perspective.

Another great perspective.

This thing really disappears in your pocket, kinda like my concealed carry gun:

I think this is how I feel. This is no doubt an awesome knife, but I would never give it a life it deserves. I'm so drawn to this knife...must resist buying frivolously.

CONGRATS to all who acquired one. :D
