Texas Camp Knife!

Here are all 3, side by side. I had to look at the edges really close to tell the difference between yellow & orange. Orange on top - yellow on the bottom.

Muchos gracaias!!! I'm glad I got the burnt orange. It looks like all the oranges have a bit more color to them. I assume that's because the covers are more polished.

De nada!!

Yes, the orange turned out great on this run. It was a tough call, between the orange & cranberry - I ended up keeping a cranberry for a user, since I also have some regular run camp, cattle & whittler knives on the way.

I'm not super fimiliar with the process used to double dye bone, but I think on the one I picked up that there's more yellow hiding in there that will show itself in the years to come with some pocket wear. Really nice pictures everyone, I'm enjoying them.

You've almost got a 1940s (Utica) Camping Set. You're just missing the chain. ;)

I'm torn. I have the burnt orange and the cranberry in hand, with regular production kingood and antique autumn still on the way. Two will be going to my father-in-law. I may hold on to the Charlie's for myself, and give the regular productions to him, just because the Northfield shields aren't doing much for me.

But then I have to decide which Charlie to use, the cranberry or the burnt orange. I may have to use the burnt orange, just because it will be easier to
find a matching fixed blade to go with the burnt orange.

I may just have one of those chains in my collection, with one of my other scout knives. If I can find one, maybe I'll attempt to recreate your picture.

Forgive the ignorance, What shield is going on the Kingwood version?

I looked through GEC pictures but cant find one with a shield on the Kingwood knives.

My Texas Camp Knife arrived last night - it was so big it came in on a lowboy!

Once I got it off of the trailer, I put it to use at work today to do my daily apple carving chore. I used the smaller blade, which worked beautifully. With such a large handle, you have a lot of control over the blade.

For those that love the smell of the GEC oil, the TCK will provide plenty of aromatics. The knife is so large that the normal oil-paper that the knives come wrapped in inside the tube only wrapped around the knife one time!

I am seriously loving this knife, it is traditional overload! I showed it to a friend at work and he said "just like my grandpa's knife, only bigger!"

The people that did the crinking on these knives did a PERFECT job, just beautiful

This is so true. The fit is incredible. The outside tools ride crazy close to the brass liners, but don't touch, leaving lots of room for the blades, so they don't rub. All that and no gaps between the liners and springs. No blade wobble at all. Perfect pull tension. No blade edge hitting the springs. Heck, the springs are even flush with liners, when the blades are in the open and closed positions.

They sacrificed a bit of finish in a few spots on mine. Nothing big. Just a few spots where the blade spines aren't perfectly smooth. But I'll take good fit over finish any day, especially for under $200.00, with this level of complication.

WOW! That's the first thing I said when I pulled my Cranberry Texas Camp Knife out of its tube, and I've said it several times since.

This is a big knife! Like others have said, it's fit and finish is fantastic. The only imperfection is that the tip of the clip point is real close to proud.

Wishing I could have gotten one of the smooth white bone ones also. These will all be classics.

File the kick - carefully and a bit at a time.

Just goes to show GEC ain't perfect but I reckon these knives are pretty close.

Yeah, I have to do that on a majority of GECs I keep as users. GEC actually does a better job than some other makers.

I don't think it will actually poke me in use, just the thing I'm picky about it guess.

My Smooth bone Texas Camper arrived yesterday...

It sure is a big one. 9 and 3/8 inches from tip to end of bail.

I stole Barry's picture,

I told myself I wasn't going to get one.
I told myself it was just too big.

Then all of you started to post photos...
You're all just a big bunch of enablers!

Now on order - vendor photo:

I had to buy a new iPhone this winter, and was torn about which one to buy, the larger or smaller. I ended up getting the big one and have no regrets. Now that I've carried my camp knife for a week, most of my GEC's seem a bit small... :)
