Texas Camp Knife!

When I got home from Oregon yesterday, that canned chicken taunted me from the cupboard!
Pretty soon there you chicken!
Meantime, looks like a real good butchering job there, mqqn! That knife is big enough to reach outside the usual pocketknife roles!

boy, and i was just about to drill mine out and make it a lanyard hole. I guess I'll have to make other plans... :-)
One of mine has rub and the other doesn't. I'm surprised if the bail has any structural role but will let the experts chime in.
I still plan to gently put the reverse pliers to it but it can wait a few days to see how this pans out.
The bail itself has no real structural role but it is attached to the pin that holds it all together. The pin seems to be peened on the outside of the bail instead of in the bolster. So, removing it could comprise the structure of the frame.
I think Remington did scout knives this way back in the day.

I did have to file down the kicks on the main blades though. They weren't proud, but the design makes it easy for your finger to accidentally touch the blade tip. I cut myself good, before even opening the knife.

This. The tip of the main blade, even though it is below the bolster, is still exposed. There is enough of a gap in there to catch a finger tip.

I did this exact thing today reaching in my pocket to get the knife.......Ouch! Lesson learned, always put in pocket bail end down.

I've also learned the hard way that the main blade stands a bit proud in the frame. Ouch! That seems like a problems if they made all of the knives that way.

This was my biggest concern upon receiving the knife. Proud or close to proud tips are my biggest bother on traditionals. On mine the tip wasn't actually all that close to proud, but because the gaps are so wide and the spacer doesn't curl up close to the tip there's enough space to catch your finger on the tip. I've found after a week or so of use and carry that there's little reason or chance that you'd catch your finger on the tip in use, due to the size and natural grips, but you might be able to catch on it when you're reaching for it in your pocket.

Sorry for the crappy picture!

Thanks for the picture, 'tracks!

I love that place; there is one in East Peoria but there is seemingly always a 45 minute wait!

Next time I go there, so goes the Texas Camp Knife for certain.....

Nice form, waynorth!

What are you doing?!?!? Don't you know these knives are designed for canned chicken? This tenderloin is not enough challenge for this superb tool. Why it doesn't even give you an excuse to use the can opener.

You are right, I will have to at LEAST open a can with the knife. I'll do pictures to redeem myself and post. ;^)

Great post. It's good to see the man chopping up a tasty steak with the beast. Little known fact: Texas Roadhouse is headquartered right here in Louisville Kentucky.

I know this is the Camp Knife thread, but has anyone gotten a Whittler in their hands yet? I was just wondering how its construction compares to the camp knife. I'm making a wild guess that it's a bit thinner and a split spring?

Thanks Robb. They do look translucent, but I assure you it's just a trick!

Here's a camp knife next to the revered 15:

I have the whittler, and it is thinner on the one end where the two springs narrow down to ( in essence) one. on the other side it will be just as wide as the camp knife I would assume. The whittler is pretty pocketable because it is relatively thin. This knife is a work of art if you ask me.......beautifully made.

Thanks Relee. I didn't originally have one of these on my radar, but decided to get one at the last minute. I like that the secondary blades are relatively large.

Carried two of these today on my hike. The Texas Camp knife rode in the slot of my front Right pocket that my wife sown up for me. I didn't want to carry two belt sheaths.... make me look like a knifeslinger:D
Except for my Buck 119, the OAL of the camp knife is longer than any of my current fixed blades:eek:

Here with a Buck 102 and GEC H60

Need to know...does the main blade, clip blade, on the whittler have half stops? Or do they all have half stops?

The whittler's main blade doesn't have half stops but the secondary blades do.

The main blade on my new Tidioute that I got today raps the backspring a bit, which is kinda a drag.
