Texas Camp Knife!

A beautiful knife Wazu

It might not be to everyones taste Charlie (or they are maybe missing the point), but it's great to see you and GEC pushing the envelope again, and I think this knife will look fantastic. I'm sure it'll do well

Here's one of mine.

I'll have one for sure
Here's Remington's R4243 "Camp Bullet Knife" that's just under 5" closed.

That's the one I have and referenced over in the "Let's Talk GEC" thread. That particular version was manufactured in 1994 and made for Remington by Camillus. They are big knives just as the ones coming from GEC are going to be. The only difference in them will be that the one pictured has 440 Stainless blades as the one coming from GEC will most likely have 1095 blades. I think the way to carry them will be in the back pocket or in a sheath. Hmmmmmmmmm - maybe GEC will consider supplying them with a sheath as they do their fixed blades. If Buck can supply sheaths with their large folders, why not GEC?

Very interesting Ed  Does anyone here have one of the original Remingtons?

I agree that it would be great to have a sheath with it, even if it increased the price.

Of course they could be carried suspended by the bail but I like the idea of a sheath. I can't recall the brand but some camp knives from the late 1950s to the early 1970s were supplied with sheaths.

I agree with all steel or stainless steel construction. I wouldn't want to have to remember to take this out of my camping gear every few months to check for corrosion. I've got my stormy kromer on. Looks like I need to look into suspenders.

I really love the pattern, but seriously wish it were in the 3.5-3.875" range. Something like the boyscout knives of old. I'd be in for at least one if that were the case.

I am hopeful for a saw layer as well.

I know I haven't offered much, but I can say that there have had to use the awl on my SAK on four separate occasions. Twice on a hike and twice camping. On two separate occasions, the sacking needle from my SAK First Mate would have made my job Much easier.

That makes three layers, I am hoping this comes into play.
Main blade, lifter
Saw
Awl, Sheepsfoot

I think I saw someone say this already, but this really is sounding like a forum knife thread.

That's probably pretty predictable. Showing a sketch and saying that you're going to make this knife and would be interested in feedback is going to result in many people offering their opinions and what they'd like to see changed. Any thread in which people are only allowed to offer unmitigated praise is going to get pretty boring very quickly. I've really enjoyed reading everybody's wishlist of what they'd like to see in a knife like this.
