That one knife you just cant bring yourself to use

bhxdtv.jpg

While I have carried this knife once or twice, I've never used it. It was bought on my honeymoon, it was my first Case, and while I know that it is completely capable of eviscerating an apple or orange, I just can't bring myself to use such a pretty knife in that way. I've got enough knives to take over its duties, I guess.

Beautiful Case knife. I love the color on your knife!

I just remembered another knife that I will not use. It's a stag and damascus Buck 110 that I picked up around 1990. It was expensive then (for me). But it is not the price, but the damascus. Just don't want to mark it up. I enjoy looking at it every once in a while and that's enough for me. And no, it has never been sharpened.

Very attracted to this one for some reason. Can't bear to use it even though it's just 7Cr17 steel.

My Direware Solo v5 wharnie. Im actually selling it because of that sinde I like to carry and use all of my knives. One knife I've carried but haven't used is my Rockstead Higo. Never had a chance to use it for anything, I should bring it sometime that I know ill have some cutting to do since it just begs to be broken in.

I've got my first large Sebenza very similar to Vaporstang's above which I can't bear to put in my pocket. It's a 2009, pre-Idaho bocote in S30V bought here on the Exchange. It was a safe queen when I bought it and will likely remain so. Just gorgeous! My KA CF Sebenza goes to work with me every day and takes all the hits for his stay-at-home sister.

For me it's this one:

It's silly but ever since I got it I wanted it to stay perfect. I guess if something ever happened to my satin/camo user it would get called up, but I won't mind if that never happens.

I got an xm-18 today with every expectation of it being a safe queen. As soon as I opened the box and had it in hand I changed my mind. This is a user. It's not an art knife, there aren't any gold screws or hidden hardware. I spent my hard earned money (Well, my refund from EoTech, hehe) on it and by god I'm gonna use it. I want my kids to fight over it after I'm gone cause it was dads knife. I want it to have soul. This is a user, as are the rest.

My actual answer I guess is my grandfathers bayonet from WW2, seems blasphemous to use it for anything.

Although this old Schrade only cost $2:50 back in 1960.
I could not bring myself to use it.
Even this old 1966 Buck 301 is happier sitting in its' box.

That's a real beauty there, you should see my sorry excuse for a 33OT ( definitely one I'm not afraid to use ) the 2 knives that I can't bring myself to use are my grandparents SAK classics, the pink one that I had to clean because my grandma never used it and spilled coffee on it, and my grandpa's well used ( and we'll sharpened down ) yellow classic that was in his pocket when he died ( and was likely the last tool he ever used ) and there's also my buck 110 ( which was kinda my grail knife, because I felt like it was my duty as an American to own one ) that I finally got as a graduation present and stopped carrying because I didn't want to mess it up ( but I do carry it here and there on special occasions )

I have a tiny Puma "classic" SAK that my grandfather got for retirement. It has 14K gold handles inset with a small diamond. Definitely not for use!

Any other knife I own is a user. (though I will draw the line on the Franklin Mint knives I've received from my Father-in-law, which I don't even count as knives :D)

I once owned a William Henry Lancet in Damascus and Pearl that was "Blade Investment Knife of the Year" that I just couldn't make myself use, so I sold it.

Some notable users in my collection: William Henry GenTac in Ironwood, Microtech LCC D/A in Carbon Fiber, ZT 0600, Protech Godfather with Black-on-black Carbon fiber and mother-of-pearl button, Benchmade 730CFHS.

Gotta' admit, I bought this one specifically for the outstanding wood.

Now afraid of even leaving fingerprints on it.

Okay, covering my ass, I know... It's for my Grandson (4 years old)! Yeah, that'll do it! Rationalization done!

Next.

Just a few, including a Small Wilson Combat Starbenza and a Damascus Caly. And a few fixed blades that I never carry anyway.

I have a self imposed rule - don't buy a knife I wont use. And I stick with that...except...

I had long admired the Sage 4, though it was down the list of folders to buy, until I saw it discontinued and bought one before they disappeared.

As soon as I took it out of the box I was smitten. OK, it's just a production back lock, but this thing is just flawless. The fit and finish, smoothness, lock up, centering, the way the blade slowly falls under it's own weight when the lock is pressed, everything about it is magnificent. It strikes me as a highly functional and beautiful work of art.

And since then all I've done is admire it, fondle it, wipe it down and put it back safely in the drawer.

I don't want to scratch it. Weird, as I don't feel like that about any other of my 30 odd folders, even those with very nice custom scales.
Maybe I will get over that one day, carry and use it and let it develop 'character'. But so far I just can't bring myself to do so.
