The “Can’t leave anything alone” Thread

Here's my latest altered knife, an SnG, formerly Lego-scaled, now adorned with a VZ Slant grip that was a most generous and out-of-the-blue gift from one of our members here. I was unfamiliar with VZ and perhaps a little skeptical when I checked out their product pages, but must say I love both the look and feel of this new scale. After posting pics a while back, @KELAMA mentioned that he thought the knife looked better after I'd reversed the pivot. I didn't realize I'd done that--it just seemed to fit the logical order for re-assembly.

looks so good! I'll try to knock it out soon, haven't forgotten about ya ;)

Thanks man! Don't stress too much about busting the clip out too quickly. We should have our hands full with this move for a bit. :)

Chip posted the slabs for this knife a while back after anodizing, but he gave them a subsequent media blast which added contrast to the hardware. I put the knife back together after receiving the scales today and here's my newly beautified Andrey Biryukov Sigma now looking every bit as sharp as its S125V blade.

This is the fifth handle I have attempted to texture with my dremel. Nothing special yet, especially compared to a lot of you more experienced craftsmen, but very functional, and I left it coarse for grip. Dare I say it's not too ugly? This Shaman finally does everything I want it to that the factory design did not. Full length cutting edge. Attractive blade shape. Thin behind the edge with a strong tip and thick spine. And the final needed touch, a grippy handle that doesn't want to jump out of my hand when actuating the lock! Thanks again to Jeff for a good trade.

That's a Shaman? I wouldn't have known. Fantastic work! I imagine that issue with the tang interfering with the compression lock is long gone.

Wanted to see how subtle I could fade from black to purple. Turns out, it can get very subtle lol.

Rit dyemore on my new M4 Manix 2 XL. The natural jade just doesn't do it for me.

I missed purple on my hardware anodizing, so I went for a rosy color instead. May just strip it and try again later if the rose color gets old.

Wait a minute... H1 steel??

Beautiful work, love the modified blade shape. If you haven't done so already, please do post several photos of this under the Spyderco forums section. Sal mentioned he has a couple of designs based on the Shaman on the drawing board. He's active on the forum and he's sure to take notice of your gem. Perhaps he'll pick up on some of your modifications.

So. Interesting evening. I purchased a Kershaw Launch 8 in gray for my cousin's birthday next month. I forgot he was left handed. D'oh!

Found out tonight my dad had my old, messed up PM2 in his truck "just in case."

I don't need another Launch 8, so I'm trading him lol.

The PM2 has a missing pivot screw, most of the screws are stripped. It's seen better days. Its from the days when Spyderco used red loctite and bad batches of s30v were common.

I'm gonna try my hand at sharpening the micro chips out, and if successful, new hardware and scales. I will also be taking some steel wool to the blade to get the surface rust off. I haven't seen this knife in years. I was so frustrated with it I threw it in a drawer and it disappeared.

I had sent it in to Spyderco for the chipping issue shortly after getting it, as it was micro chipping just opening mail and cutting tape. They sharpened it, sent it back. Proceeded to have the same problem.

I tried a lot with this knife. Time to try again now that physically I'm in better shape.

Pics to come.

So I decided to just say f it and customize. I've got some burlap scales inbound as well as black screws. Monday was the two year anniversary of my liver transplant so why not spend a little. Though I did just get a new gun... Any when all is said and assembled I'll post pics. Yea!

I really like the looks of that handle now. It reminds me a bit of African Antelope Horn.
