Leather The “What’s going on in the S&F shop” thread!

Just an update for those of you who are watching this thread.

My brother is still in ICU awaiting some medical decisions. I’m not going to go into detail here in the thread, but am considering a PM to all who have responded (group PM).

It will be a long road to recovery for him. :(

I do want to thank you all for your support, thoughts and prayers for my brother and our family. It is overwhelming in a very positive way.

Coleman,

Try to stay positive my friend. He's one surgery down and it was a successful one. That's a great first step to the road ahead so try not to spiral.

Like Blues Blues said, it might be a long recovery but even the possibility of a recovery is amazing news. I know one thing for certain, with family like you around to support him the odds are definitely in his favor.

He'll be in our prayers.

Quick update.

He is still in ICU…but they finally let him have something to drink.

He has had some MRI’s and CT scan’s and they are still figuring out the extent of the damage before they decide on the second operation.

He is banged up pretty good, but his vitals are staying on the positive side.

On behalf of my family, we would again like to thank you all for your prayers.

Coleman, great news. Giving him non-iv fluid and his vitals staying positive are great.
The body is amazing when it comes to healing. If he is alert, keep him positive.
Don't forget to take a couple minutes for yourself.
Continued prayers for you and your family.

Friends,

He is still on the IV and in ICU awaiting surgery. I’m not sure why he hasn’t had it yet as the Dr’s aren’t willing to tell us much. :(

We are trusting in the Almighty that things will work out for His glory.

Again, your continued prayers are heartwarming.

Thanks for keeping us updated Coleman. We're still here and definitely still keeping him in our prayers.

Godspeed my friend.

Coleman:
I just saw this thread. I spent many years working ICU. If you need a sounding board- don’t hesitate. I know it is really hard not having any control of the situation, but please remember that slow and steady is good in ICU.
Thank you for your offer of kindness. So very much appreciated!

Finally a much needed update for all of you who have sent prayers and good thoughts and well wishes.

He finally got his surgery yesterday morning at 9:00am and we were able to see him at 2:00pm.
He is now on the road to recovery and is back to his original mindframe-ish. It will be a long road to recovery and he has been tired. He is still in ICU for the time being to be monitored.

I’m not going to go into a ton of detail in this thread but I do want to let you know why the last week was extremely stressful.

He is a very active and in shape young man (early 40’s) and participates in all things outdoors including whitewater kayaking, mountain climbing, hunting, hiking, canoe trips, backpacking, mountain biking, travelling and disc golf.

As you know, two Saturdays ago, my brother felt nauseous and fainted, falling 15 feet to the ground. For the past week he was fighting for his life. He had collapsed lungs, many broken ribs, broken vertebrae, punctured spine, bleeding spleen and lost a kidney.
He had been airlifted to the absolute best possible hospital to be at for these injuries.
He had two surgeries performed, one to stop his spleen from bleeding and a second one to fuse his vertebrae. We all have no idea how he has mobility in his arms, hands, feet and legs. We chalk it up to a God thing, most definitely.

I can’t put into words how much BF folks mean to me. Thank you for all who posted in this thread and also to those of you who reached out via DM or text. It was good to have others voice their concern and their willingness to be here for us.

I am very, very glad to have my brother, best friend, hunting buddy and adventure partner still with me on this earth.

Wear your harnesses this hunt season folks.

I’m really looking forward to getting back to the leather table soon. It will be good for me and therapeutic.

I’m with my brother again today on this Thanksgiving long weekend here in Canada. There is much to be thankful for. :)

He did however get a case of pneumonia last night so that is a little worrying.

So today was awesome!

My brother only has a small case of pneumonia which is clearing up with some breathing exercises.

He also took a short walk on his own with a nurse today.

Thanks again for all your kindness guys. You’re the best!
