The 2011 NEWBIE KITH

I am going to have to pass on this one. It has been brought to my attention that it may be interpreted as my trying to get two knives and that was not my intent so I am going to focus my attention on the other KITH and make the absolute best knife I can.

All the best to everyone and their projects, and I will be watching what everyone puts out:thumbup:

Sounds like a great time, let's see, I get to make a knife, talk about knives, look at pictures of knives, be a part of something having to do with knives ... why not, count me in!

“I’m In - I will make a knife by December 1,2011.”

Awesome. that puts us at, lets see, 9 people so far, if i get info from fluidsteel and cbr900son.

"The only requirement is that it be made by the submitter ( For simplicity, I will refer to it as “the knife“)."

I'm not sure if my knives qualify. I've used premade blades; Mora, Helle, but mostly Green River. Here are the ones that I've made so far.

My sheathes are functional but not very pretty.

I'm not sure I feel comfortable going beyond nickle silver and desert ironwood. But, if there are no objections (in the next 24 hrs.), I'm in.

As long as I can get a knife made and shipped by 1 Dec 2011 I can join anytime before then correct?

Thanks Wolffbite! I haven't made a knife in over 10 years....and I'm 23. The one I made as a kid I did under my dad's guidance. Really all of the guidance consisted of him saying "don't get her to hot, you will ruin the temper." The thing I made was pretty gnarly for a 13 year old kid. I cut a LOT of brush with it. If I had to guess what it weighed I'd say about 30-ish ounces. So to say the least I'm a noob. I am EASing from the USMC in a few days. So I will have access to some tools and materials again. I will see what I can do. I want to Say "I'm in" right now, but I will be smart and wait a few days so I'm not the jackass that said "I'm in" and couldn't deliver. Geek I will let you know in about a week If I'm in. If I do this, someone will be getting one hell of a chopper. Really glad I stumbled on this thread, it's pretty motivating to someone like me who might not have made something otherwise. Either way I'm grateful for the opportunity.

Makers who don't get their knives completed by the deadline are not frowned upon. Things come up, ideas don't pan out, grind lines just aren't working, there are a lot of reasons a knife isn't completed by the deadline. It is, however, frowned upon if you say "oh, well!" and submit a flawed knife anyway just to make the deadline. As long as you don't do the latter, you're fine.

Understood, I will try to make fewer assumptions in the future.

I still need info from some of you guys. I can't do this going on the assumption that some people will eventually send me their shipping information. I need it ASAP. check the list on the OP to see who still needs to send it in.

Hey guys if I can do it with 32 hours of classes a week and probably 2x that in homework I'm sure all of you can too! Remember we have 3 months to get this thing done!
