The 2011 NEWBIE KITH

I have a plan!

DSC01145.jpg

This will be my knife for the Newbie KITH, like others I will make several and submit the best.
Steel is w2
Handle, Osage Orange/Ebony
Black G10 spacer
SS pins.
Leather sheath??

The fun begins.

I've got everything together so I'll formalize my entry. I will make a knife and sheath by December first.

thegeek574; barring mishap I'll e-mail my particulars tomorrow.

Cool. I forgot to mention, a sheath is not necessary for this KITH. My knife won't be coming with one. it will come with a pouch, but that is about it. I haven't gotten to sheathes yet.

Thinking about getting in on this. If I do, I will be using a premade blade as well...I was glad to see that those wouldn't be barred admission. To make my submission a bit more worthwhile considering my use of a premade blade, I will include a sheath with as much talent and skill as I have available.

I'll let you know within a few days if I am in....gotta get my creative gears rolling.

Hell, I'm in. I don't feel my work's good enough to be shared on par with the more experienced folks but this works nicely. Email inbound shortly.

Well I am not sure what I will be making. It will be something in either 1075, D2 or RWL34. Because thats what steel I have on hand and I have a batch I need to get off to heat treat in D2 and RWL34. So it should fit in with that. Whatever I end up making I am thinking I will use some nice Native WA wood. With a g10 linier or liners. I like layered liners. Something out of this batch:

Top to bottom,
Left
1. Curly Yorrel
2. Curly Mini Ritchie
3. Gimlet
Right
4. Lace Sheoak
5. Black Eye Rib Fruited Mallee
6. York Gum
7. E. Vasticola

These are only sanded to 200g. at 1000g with some wax on them they really pop!

Awesome start man! I think there is a WIP thread Steven started somewhere in shoptalk... I'll try and revive it tomorrow. I will have a picture of the profiled blade and planned handle material. I just ordered something special that MIGHT get used as bolsters :D

Just came across this but I would love to be in..its not too late is it...I'll look into this more tonight, Browsing the forums on a Blackberry is tough..

WIP thread updated. My first attempt failed. It was my first guard and hidden tang attempt, and I'm happy with what I learned making it. My next should be a lot better.
