The 2016 knives have landed!

I had some blade rub that was stopping my punch from opening while the spear was closed. Seemed pretty minor since it all worked fine otherwise. So I gently prised the scales apart (with both blades open), just to work them a touch wider at that rub point. Worked a treat, knife is perfect now.

To those of you having problems with the 2016 BF knife: please understand that this knife is not my sfo, and I had nothing to do with the manufacturing design or execution; I am only distributing the knife that was chosen by the BF members,

All member funds collected thus far, as well as a considerable investment of my own money, have been sent to GEC for the club knife, so no refunds will be available at this time, sorry.

Please wait until Charlie and Bill have a chance to discuss this issue with the punch blade when GEC re-opens this week, and we will see what the solution might be. Meanwhile, I am referring all warranty work to GEC and you will need to return the knife to them for any warranty work required; please do not send the knife to me for warranty work, as I am not a knife mechanic nor am I responsible for defects in manufacturing.

I apologize to all of you having this issue, but please be patient until Charlie and Bill have a chance to discuss the issue. We will do whatever is humanly possible to make everyone happy with their purchase.

Did anyone tell Lyle that the back of the tube mentioned budding and grafting blades :D?

Good stuff Barry! I know everyone involved will do their best to make it right for peeps!

Thanks Barry for your efforts in getting these to us. Two days ago the punch blade on the one I received was lock up tight when the spear was closed. A light sanding of liner and a strop of the flat edge of the punch improved it substantially. Working the blades a little during the past 2 days has completely eliminated any and all binding. Now I can honestly say the knife is absolutely spectacular! Sorry for all the folks who are still having trouble but as easy as it was to fix mine certainly GEC will quickly resolve any remaining issues.

Guys, I don't know if I will exchange, refund, credit, discount, or have everybody with a problem send their knife back to GEC, as they have been closed all week and don't re-open until tomorrow morning, 5 am my time. Bill is typically not available until the afternoon, so again, those of you that have a problem knife, please wait until Charlie and Bill can have a conversation and a solution is available.

Patience, please!!!

ooo still waiting for mine to land, cant wait to see them, hope they are ok!

Mine came a couple of days ago. Everything on it is perfect. Thanks, Barry, for picking me a winner. Such a nice knife. Can't wait to see other variants of this frame. This is perfect for a scout knife.

Received mine a couple days ago, its a great knife and has no problems. Really fine point on that punch. The coloration looks identical to the copperhead bone on my 77 barlow. Thanks to everyone who helped make the forum knife happen again this year.

Got mine in yesterday and it was a nice distraction from the food poisoning I was dealing with. :)

My punch was stuck shut with the blade closed, but after leaving the punch open for maybe 30 minutes, then working it open and shut maybe 20 times, it loosened up considerably. From there, I left both the blade and punch fully opened for another hour, then took turns working each one open and closed.

After doing this, my blade is probably a 5 on pull and a 5 on snapping shut. The punch is now a 6 on pull and 4 on snapping shut. This was all with no cleaning or flushing, which may improve stuff, but I'm totally fine with the knife as is. My punch came super sharp and I gave myself a nice small cut with it. :)

Thanks again to everyone involved in this. The size, slimness, and blade setup make this a definite user for me and I couldn't be happier with the materials and handle coloration.

I'm happy to report that my closing snap on spear issue is largely remedied with a lot of working the blade and forcing a break in of the liner/tang friction area. This is a fantastic knife and the break-in process was a nice bonding experience in the end. Thanks so much to Barry and Charlie!

I mentioned this elsewhere, but here it is again. GEC has been closed for factory maintenance for the past week, and this may continue through Monday.
There are several knives out there that have trouble with the punch fit.
We will get a solution from GEC when they return!! I will work diligently with this until it is resolved, I guarantee to you!!
But I need your patience. It is unfortunate that the timing creates a delay, but we will get it solved!!

Not to worry Barry. We know you have no responsibility and I hope no members are giving you any grief. I'm sure most of us will wait patiently for Charlie and Bill to work things out. It's a little disappointing but not the end of the world. Lets all keep things in perspective. The knives are beautiful and problems will eventually be sorted out.

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle!
As I've already stated, I got one of the bad apples. However, after hours fondling this knife and doing everything I knew to do(plus some) I'm happy to say that it doesn't look like I will have to return it to GEC after all.
Here is everything I tried:
Flushed the joints repeatedly
Oiled, oiled, and then oiled the punch some more
Buffed the inside of the liners
Left the punch 3/4 open over night a couple times

Now the punch opens with ease even when the spear is closed with the slightest amount of rub. Just a couple days ago the punch wouldn't budge with the spear closed and barely opened with the spear open. The punch also snaps closed everytime now.
I'm not going to get my hopes up, because I don't know if the action will be the same once the 1/2 gallon of 3-in-1 starts to run out. But for now it is looking good!
Thanks for your patience Barry and Charlie, and thank you to all who suggested some home remedies.

I am so looking forward to getting my knife. Barry sent it last week, and USPS decided that the quickest way to Oregon from Washington was through California for some reason, so I have been bouncing back and forth like an anxious raccoon for days. Nothing like the wait for a knife. I know that there have been some issues for folks with the punch, but I am just so excited.

Mine came out perfect. Thanks guys!!!! Outstanding knife. No rub, medium pulls, perfect blade combo and easy pocket carry. Glad to have one.

Mine is also flawless. I oiled it up good and it is a beautiful specimen!! Thanks to Barry, Charlie, and everyone else who made this knife a reality. Your hard work is much appreciated!!
