The 2024 F**** K****?

yes, i am also shocked by my change of heart lately. two full blades, imagine the modding options available!
I think the Spey sitting real low is nice too. Perfect size. It’s basically a 15 with a hint of curve. I understand why not though. We did have a 39 two years ago 🤷.

agreed! theres something about how the spey fits in the blade well, its like the first run ancient blade profile. We'll see what the powers that be arranges, im sure itll be nice all the same, whatever it may be.

I don’t think it’d work again. The amount of belly aching about the voting that I’ve read since 2021 leads me to conclude I was part of a minority that enjoyed playing a small part in the forum knife.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I very much enjoyed the voting process. It drew us in and we could be part of choosing our knife; what's not to love?

However, what was supposed to be good natured ribbing and fun attempts at swaying hearts and minds turned into anything but that. Over the last few voting processes, it was rather troubling to see how quickly things devolved. When things are so contentious that it is drawing eyes and input from other parts of the forum, then you know something got broken.

The 86 Barlow is one of our finest forum knives but it is also a bittersweet reminder of what led to it.

100%

(I was going to put in an Amen gif, but when I took a second look at the one I had picked I worried that some folks might not appreciate it. It probably would have been fine, but I'm not looking to offend anyone while trying to be funny about how much I agree with wanting good vibes on the Porch. It would kind of defeat the whole purpose.)

I am confused. I thought that we all agreed on a Buck 112 for this year’s Forum Knife.
🙄
I would legitimately be fine with that. I don't have a 112. I like the 112. And then we wouldn't have to deal with nearly as many people whining about not qualifying for the knife and/or resurrecting dead threads to pump up their post numbers.

I'd be down for a 112. I only have one but I do enjoy it, especially since it has Buck's 5160 steel.

I can't say that I share the same enjoyment. Having been the recipient of a few less than pleasant PMs during the last time we held votes and such, I don't care to go through it again. I offended a fair number of people apparently and without any ill intent on my part. I am not in a rush to risk a repeat performance.
I agree completely. The last three rounds of voting that I remember (Buck 301, Viper Swayback, Spring Street Barlow) seemed to get exponentially worse each time with bringing out the worst in the porch. To the point that I took a break away from here for a couple of years because it left such a bad taste in my mouth. I can take or leave the forum knife, but it’s the general porch knife content and discourse that brought me here and brought me back.

I know that I already did my annual (pointless) call for a whaler knife as the forum knife, but I was looking over my past posts going back to 2015, and I decided I wanted to make a better post that I can just cut and paste every year from here to the heat death of the universe.

Avast Ye!

It is time for my annual plea for a Whaler!

(It's a great Blue Whaler since I don't know how to make it a White Whaler visible on a white background. But it should be a White Whaler since I'll be like Captain Ahab stumping around and screaming about my Whaler until my final spiteful breath.)

Barring a Whaler, I would also be very happy with a Sailor's knife with a marlin spike, and/or a scout knife. Please see an example photo of all three below (you can click on it for a larger view).

This has been you regularly scheduled reminder that abbydaddy abbydaddy wants a Whaler.

Darn it! I forgot my post count! I need to keep up the Post Ho to get my numbers up! Maybe I need to find some old threads to get my numbers up!

That is a fantastic idea. A 4” pattern with a real fork, can opener, and a pen knife under 2.5” so even a felon can carry it. That’s all a hobo really needs, maybe an awl…
Even though I just scored a nice Case Hobo, I'd be in line for such a thing with no hesitation.

Regarding the voting for a forum knife, 2024 is an election year in the US. Just saying… 😏
