The 80's!! Anyone remember knives from the 80's??

Miss my 1986 Wenger Nomad my great uncle gave me for my 7th birthday. My first knife.

I was gifted this set back around 1985, I believe. It somehow managed to not get lost through two marriages and several moves. Neither have been used much, cos they’re just too nice for me to want to beat on, but after all these years they’re both still hair-popping sharp. Both have been neglected for about 20 years and are in need of a little TLC.

Haven't seen one since the 80s but I remember a fixed blade dagger with a spring loaded plastic sheath that retracted into the handle, like a faux switchblade.

Hey guys an' gals (with a ;-) to those whom were either born in or a teen in the 80's)

Hehehe. Let's see how many knives you guys can either name or post a pic from which was made in the 80s! C'mon!

;-)
Yeah, I remember. It was either SAK, Buck 110 or a Barlow of dubious origins.

This modern tanto from CS was made in the 80’s I think. Forgot what the model name was.

I had a really nice Buck knife, with brass bolsters, with a secondary crosscut saw that was solid and got used as much as the knife blade. Back then it was all I ever needed. Then I got a random Ka-Bar utility fixed blade and it was good for what I needed it for. I even picked up a commando style Smoky Mountain Toothpick knife because it looked cool and used it for throwing practice, because it wasn't much good for anything else. The WTF Rambo knives were probably what put me off getting into knives back then, because I was more interested in useful tools more than knives designed by tools. I might have transitioned into buying a Cold Steel Recon, but the guy introducing me to the brand was a bit too much into the over the top Cold Steel marketing and it reminded me of Rambo knife marketing. That probably kept me from getting really into knives at that time, which is a shame because Cold Steel were making some great knives. There was certainly an interest on my part, but the knife collecting role models available at that time were complete nutters.

That right there was priceless! Thanks for sharing... it had me smiling and giggling 👍😃👍
Ten bucks and they kept on offering free stuff... Heck, I was tempted to break out my Debit Card and place my order, but then realized that I was a wee bit too late, (like 40 years too late!) 😅

I was born in 1965, so I was about 15 years old when the 80's began.
I remember the Rambo knives being sold during the 1980's to early 1990's... But, I never did get one back then.
Since I now have a decent sized eclectic collection of knives, I felt I needed to add something to represent the type within my collection. So, I wound up purchasing a mint condition Buckmaster 184 some months back, but it sure cost me a pretty penny! 😱
Oh, well, not many hollow handled survival knives have such a cool history as the Buckmaster does.
Still, for $10, I would have certainly added that one in that old sales commercial you put up above! 👍😅👍

I had one very similar when I was a kid...think it was $5 at a flea market. Mine had a plastic handle...not sure if the one on TV was metal. And I think the blade was black. The saw came all folded up and just unfolding it caused it to break. So pathetic...

I had a couple of early Leatherman knockoffs that failed at the pivot point under heavy abuse. Then I discovered the SOG Toolclip, and was thrilled with the solid plier leg.

Still have one, lost 2 or 3…

Btw, they called the blade's steel "420 Molecular Stainless Steel"... Now I know for sure that I just have to get one! 😅

Always wanted a Tomcat after seeing them in the cutlery store at the mall as a kid. This Stingray will have to do for now.

I always wanted one of those seeing them in the catalogs and mall knife shops. Bet they would sell quite a few if they were still available today.
