The 80's!! Anyone remember knives from the 80's??

Lakota Hawk, and Lil Hawk folder, Blackie Collins Combat Master, Blackjack Magnum Camp Knife, Gerber Frisco Shiv, both dagger and drop-point, SOG Tomcat, Gerber Command One, Buck 110, Schrade LB-7, Schrade 154OT.....
And a bunch more that I don't remember, I'm sure. No pics, and they're mostly all gone. Still have the Blackjack, and the Combat Master, tho. Blackie Collins put that one in my hand at the 1986 Knifemakers Guild show.
I also have a SOG S1, but no way to date its manufacture. Bought it about 8 years ago, but an 80s design.....
I always wanted one of those seeing them in the catalogs and mall knife shops. Bet they would sell quite a few if they were still available today.
I'd love to find another Tomcat in mint condition! It wouldn't stay that way...

Gifts from my Dad during the 80's, my first sheath knife & a "country of manufacture unknown" Winchester lockback, still have both, the Winchester unused.

The Whitby sheath knife spent a lot of time on my belt & made many sticks pointy, the Winchester lockback I thought was just so great it never got used, I saved it "for best" a decision I regret now knowing it's nothing that special I wish I had memories of using it as well.

I remember my friend & me both walking round with sheath knives on our belts in rural Yorkshire UK, around the age of 12 & it now seems crazy, if a 12 year old did that now it'd probably make national news headlines & end up with the kid in care & parents arrested!

I remember looking at these in the store when I was a kid, it seems like they were $110-150 or something.
Yeah, that's about right, and that too was quite spendy during the 80's.
Well, they surely have gone up quite a bit since then... A bit of an ouchie for a minty specimen nowadays 😱

Growing up in rural Virginia we didn’t have Amazon or the Internet back then, so our options were whatever they were selling at K-mart, gun shows, or the local mom and pop shop/ gas station. In the early 80’s I remember seeing a lot of Imperial and Colonial barlows, as well as a slew of imported lockbacks and small stockmans. But the predominant themes for the 80’s were Rambo knives for one, and since we all grew up in the 70’s / 80’s watching Kung Fu movies and Ninja movies so everybody wanted to be a ninja. Also Dungeons and Dragons and Fantasy stuff was popular, so medieval stuff was popular as well. That being said, this is why most of the knives made during that time were geared towards martial arts, fighting, and weaponry as opposed to decent cutting tools. This is when balisong knives got popular, as mentioned earlier the cheap “NATO” otf knives, and lots of boot knives and push daggers. Most of which were cheap imports from China, Pakistan, and back then Hong Kong. An example we saw a lot of around here was the old United Cutlery daggers with the black widow design. These were the “high quality” alternative to the Pakistani boot knives that had the loose handles and were made from some mystery steel that wouldn’t sharpen to save your life.
There was good stuff available such as Case, Schrades, Colonials, Imperial, Buck, and some of the nicer Parker’s for example. Us young dummies back then were not interested in that boring old stuff, we wanted a ninja sword, some throwing stars, and a survivor Rambo knife. 😂

Edited to add pic of the black widow dagger

This modern tanto from CS was made in the 80’s I think. Forgot what the model name was.
Only the super cool rich guys had these!

From what I remember, in the 80's you had a Buck 110, 119 or 120 on your belt when out of the city, and some kind of slip joint in your pocket, most likely a Victorinox, Wenger, Schrade old timer or Case.

I still have my 110, 119 and Schrade ol timer from that era. I cannot post photos on this forum unfortunately.

I can explain how to post pics if you have a smartphone.
The forum won't let me post photos. I either have to pay this forum, which I don't use enough to justify, or post the photo on the web somewhere and then post a link here, which is a heck of a lot more legwork than I'm willing to go through. Thanks thought.

Not hard at all - it takes 20 seconds to post a pic here without a premium membership.

Get an Imgur account (good and free). Upload your pics there. Select your pic, and click the button for "message boards and forums". Copy and paste that link here. Easy-peasy.

May have the Model wrong but a Buck 110 LT was popular, as well as Uncle Henry medium serpentine stockman (897 or 987?), a Swiss Army knife and finally I loved SOG Tomcat and 5th Special forces Bowie. The one I could afford was Kabar USMC Mark 2. I also bought that Survival knife as advertised late night tv for $10.00, the hollow handle craze.
