The All Stag and Ivory Buck Thread (Let's See Your Stag & Ivory Buck Knives)

Mark, There is a set of special cupped small bits, you use in a drill press to round off the heads of the pins, do you not have or use those ?? I think they may be called rounding off bits.

I think another name for those is a head spinner :)

Thanks Mark for your great comments regarding my stag and ivory Buck knives. More to come.

Great job on your stag knives and on the pin additions. I personally like all stag handled knives with or without pins but kind of prefer ones with the pins. The pins add a bit more bling to the knife.

Well done. I have a couple hundred I can send your way to recover whenever you are ready.

Thanks Craig and Jerad…those spinner or rounding bits would work great when the pin ends up in a deeper groove of the stag.
I don't have any problem when I can get to the pin…in fact I actually really enjoy peening them.

James…anxiously awaiting to see what other stag or ivory Buck knives you might post here!!

I had a little time this morning and added pins to this BG-42 Buck 301 that the club put out earlier this year.
I really like the secure feeling I get not having to rely solely on epoxy to hold the covers in place.

Very nice. I can go either way with the pins done right, but I can't stand the one's that have the pin recessed because of the thicker scale.

Did you hit the original holes or just drill new all the way thru?

There weren't "regular" holes. The holes were about 3/16 of an inch and had the scales run into from what I can remember.
I did drill new holes right next to the larger existing holes in the frame.

Gotcha so the 301 did'nt have pins originally.
But the 501 did.

I had to go and check just to make sure I was right….and sure enough, I was wrong!! :)

The knife in question did have pins through the factory covers, but I did not use the existing holes.

The holes on the inside of the 301 frame looked too large to use for my pins. I can only think that maybe they were reverse countersunk from inside the frame to hold the factory pins.

Here is the old photo I dug up to make sure I was………….….wrong. :p

EDIT;

I just went out in the shop and took pictures of the inside of the frame to show what I was talking about.
The small pins are what I added next to the reverse countersunk? holes that are filled with epoxy from the re-handle.
I can see from the pictures that I need to clean the knife up better. :)

Mark, Your stag handle replacements have gotten better and better and now with you pinning them they really look great.

Here is a Buck 916 by WBC (Wild Bill Cody) #916EKSLE-B. The knife has elk antler handles with howling wolf cutout and blue turquoise. Overall length is 12-3/8" with a mirror polished blade and filework on spine.

250 of these were made in 2012 with this one being serial #009/250.

Another nice one James!!
Thanks for posting so many stag and ivory Buck knives here.
I love going back through the pages of this thread and drooling. :)

Here is a Buck 102 custom stag with a mirror polished blade of 425-M and brass guard and pommel from 1991. Comes in the original brown custom box.

James…one of these days I'll find a stag 102. I think I would rather have the 102 in stag than any of the other 100 series fixed blades.
Thanks for posting another beauty!!:thumbup:

ardharaja80…I agree with Michael. I like the one on the right the best, but wouldn't turn down either!!
Thanks for sharing with us. I like looking at the back ground too. :)

George…what can I say? I like your stag Trailblazer more each time I look at it!!
Thank you for posting it here for all to enjoy.:thumbup:

Yeah George…you've become one of those "bad" influences here!! :)
Nice 110!!

Another beauty James. :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Here is one I got from a friend this week.
He said it had come from Vern Taylor's collection.

An early two dot stag.
