The Ashokan pole arm challenge.......

Dave, C'mon man! Your a Canadian! Think oot side the box!
Make it telescoping. I'm sure you can figure something oot.:D

Mace

That's funny as hell!

Dave, don't sweat the border crossing... just make the head of the polearm to fit a standard handle size and I'll bring an extra one, or something.

Interestingly enough, my eldes son has finally taken notice of his younger brother (middle child) and the sword dad's making him. Now my eldest wants me to make him a trident. Not a weaponized polearm, but a fishing type barbed trident. He saw a cartoonish drawing of Poseidon and fell in love with "that three pointy spear thing".

So I guess, if I can get things organized quickly enough, I'll give it a shot!

As I abstained from the Gladius festivities last year, I will be coming up with a version for this year. That is if I can attend! Thanks for another great challenge, Mace (even if it was all Matt's idea :D)

Wow, this is going to be an awesome build off!!!!
Post lots of pix for us, please!!!

It should be a sight to behold, Matt vs. Mace with polearms on the Wiggly Bridge of Death! A fight to the death (or at least until one cries "Uncle") over a monster filled moat, is not something you see everyday!

Don't forget that Matt will be naked...:barf:

Nice Chris!:D

Hey...anyone know where to get some poles?????
Mace

I got mine from this old condemned bar place, when I tore it out it was strangely secured to the ceiling AND floor, but it was nicy and shiny albeit a bit sticky for some reason . Come to think of it, the floor was sticky as well........:confused:

Yup... the Ashokan Bridge Wyrm... pretty nasty. Almost as ugly as Mace, too!:D

You two are bad, Sam and Erik...

...and I'm not getting naked this time, no matter how much Spangler begs!

Now that the challenge has been issued, what's everyone thinking of using? I've got a big horkin' chunk of 1" 52100 round stock that I'll never use for anything else - might be just what's called for here. I'm thinking spear for this year...

Man o Man those pole arms rock!! Thanks for the museum shots! You guys know how to put on a show!

How does one get invited to this event?
Where in the world is Ashokan?
And who is Burt Foster??????
(kidding Burt!!!!)

Ashokan will be Sept. 19-21 at the Ashokan field campus in Olivebridge NY. You may not like the location though, it is nestled near the Ashokan reservoir deep in the heart of the Catskill Mountains so as you can imagine the scenery is just terrible;) I will let Mace an the others tell you about how bad the food is ;).

ICF anyone and everyone is welcome to show up but register early to insure you get atleast SOME bacon and maple syrup!

Contact Ashokan and get on their mailing list. Tell them that you are interested in the Bladesmithing Weekend. I think the fliers usually come out in August.

Tim Neu is the campus director, and he's a very nice guy. I don't know who actually maintains their mailing list, but I'm sure that anyone on their contact page will help you.

:cool:man there is way too much to touch on here, so i'll start with matt (pun intended) i was not begging you were the one with the door wide open towel drying your junk.

Mace you're in trouble the only wyrm you need to worry about is matt. and he's a pushover.

so on the technical side... can we make "neck polearms" i think it's going to be the new fad. maybe i can get my hands on some stellite.

now that would rock.

i can't wait for this year. i'm going to drag paul along with me for backup too.

wait i'm missing something in this post....... oh yeah

mace you suck:thumbup:

Damnit, I won't be making it to Ashokan this year. All of my knife travel budget for the year went into Blade :(

Have fun you guys, and eat some bacon for me!
