the bottom end for edge stability for Delta 3V is around 13 degrees per side. There is too much carbide and chromium in it to go narrower than that. Below that you need a simple steel like W2 which can go down to perhaps 10? This is much narrower than most knives. Delta 3V shines at 15 to 20 which is on the narrow side of most users.

Because we have high strength and high hardness we can go thinner BTE than most steels, this is largely a function of yield strength which is around 320 KPSI on steel of this hardness, this is a higher strength-to-weight ratio than titanium, and 3V can achieve this level of hardness with good working toughness. So you can go pretty thin behind the edge. That said, the stiffness is a function of the geometry not the heat treat.

I'm dancing around my question I think. With the D3V configuration could you not turn out a 15 DPE razor which wouldn't deform or damage easily? To be fair, I'm only asking because of my recent goose hunting forays. I avoided boning the goose (shut up Casino!) to breast it out.

We had a dead goose decide he was alive, I stuck an EDC in it's head to change its mind. I'm very new to hunting models.

Hey Nathan, I’m pretty sure the answer is no, but is it possible to order scales for discontinued models like LC? Even if it’s a no for a single order, I’m wondering if there’s a minimum qty that could justify a run.

I’m asking specifically with the LC in mind. And this brings up another good sticky we’re in need of that would save you from being pestered to death with recurring common questions...common fit and compatibility of handle scales between models. For ex in this case, whatever else currently in production may be the same fit.
 
I was going to add some detail to the encyclopedia - which scales are interchangeable?

Utility Fighter & Double Edge Fighter - do they match the Shiv as well?

EDC, EDC2, and EDC3 all interchange, but the scales on the EDC2 & EDC3 are slightly thicker?

Choppers - do the RLC, LC, MC, HC, and BC all share the same scales? The Behemother? The HDFK?

Anything else?

Can you add a note to each knife to indicate if it's discontinued or still in production?

:thumbsup: Cool. I know the UF answer is no. The bolt pattern matches the Shiv, but the profile is slightly different.
