The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

Check out reverse hyper. This machine does amazing decompression for your back. Developed by power lifter.
Interesting. Just looked it up. Theory is interesting. One of these days when the gyms have opened back up, and it's safe to go to them, I might have to find a gym with one to try it out.

Right now, I'm just glad to have my home gym in the basement (and one of those Teeter Hangup inversion tables).

I was a powerlifter for many years and now have some stiff shoulders and back.
I bought a reverse hyper from Louie and it is terrific.
The last time I really twinged my back and was very uncomfortable, I got on the machine and did light reps. It completely eased the pain.
I also like doing hanging abs from a chinup bar. It hits the core and stretches at the same time.

What’s a good beer to have after moving like 35000 pounds of gear, only with less importance, as compared to the previous 35000 pounds.

Oh fudge it! What are you drinking to celebrate the move?
Not Nathan, but Sunbelt brought 5 foot forks instead of 8 foot. We are moving the less important and less heavy stuff for now. Theoretically they are bringing the big forks Monday and we can get the important stuff moved. Always something...

I noticed that you had referred to today's DEK1 as pre-production DEK1 tactical EDC so I've gotta ask:

What are you thinking to tweak further? Are you waiting to get some user feedback for some tweaks which you may have in mind, like the UFK transition to FK2?

Also, are you settled on DEK1? I dunno man, I luv my CPK brethren but it'd make me cringe like YIKES if they keep saying that they like or lurve my DEK!!! Are you thinking more like TEDC? Do you even wanna be associated with a taboo word like tactical and knives?

As always, asking for Mike157 Mike157 :D

What's wrong with blurting out, "I love how my 4-inch DEK feels in my hand! Every position feels good!" :p

Nathan, i know your not a fan of 90 degree spines. Thank you for making it for the FK2! Is the spine done before or after HT? I would like to have it added to my two HDFKs. Is there someone you recommend that can do it? Is there any future plan of you putting some out like that or is the HDFK a retired pattern?

Nathan, what sort of work did you do as a machinist prior to knives.

I was involved in prototyping and product R&D in addition to production machining in the chemical and agricultural industries. My shop also did prototypes and low volume production and served the fiberoptics and printing industries. I no longer do fabrication work due to back problems but I used to do fab work in addition to tools, jigs and fixtures. I made knives as a hobby and developed some heat treats for both knives and industrial cutting tools (machines to cut Kevlar fiber) and made knives on machine tools when they'd be open. Knives became the primary work here a few years ago but we do still offer machining services here to old customers.

Yeah, it's done post HT because the tumbling process would round the sharp spine and we finish grind and tumble post-HT

You'd have to remove a lot of material to get to a sharp spine due to the chamfer. I wouldn't recommend it.

The HDFK isn't retired, it just isn't in production. We'll revisit it again in the future.

Then I will take your advice and keep my fingers crossed for a 90 degree spine as an option in the future.

In regards to revisiting the HDFK. Maybe like the MC there could be a heavy duty version :) ? Also a standard and thin versions :) I’d love to see the HDMC and HDFK have an offspring !!!!
Yes, I would like 3 or 4 of each :)
