Yeah, what's with you making yours all symmetrical?!
I think I am starting to see a pattern here…….
What is the one on the left?
What is the one on the left?
Selling them on the doorstep too?Someone is selling a knockoff of my boot dagger.
We have all been inspired by other people's work, nobody in this industry is working in a perfect vacuum, and there are tribute pieces also. But this guy didn't talk to me first, and he copied elements such as the choil that he didn't need to. And then he's selling them here. It's too much, I have a problem with it.
Oh, calm down Nathan. I am sure the choils are not the same. The diameter/radius of the pencil lead has to throw it off by at least a few thousandths when you trace the knife on paper.Someone is selling a knockoff of my boot dagger.

Yeah, Jake, like Adam said, I think a difference is that is a personal project and likely not for sale. That guy is at least a very active member of the CPK sub, not a BF Knifemaker member and openly posted it right here on the sub where Nathan would be sure to see it. I saw it and thought kinda the same as you, that’s obviously his version of a UF2 variant, but was okay with it.Now that the boot daggers have been brought to light and are being compared, is this too close in design to a UF/UF2? The blade length is shorter but with the tell tale thumb ramp, handle curves, grind and swedge, it’s pretty darn close. (If this design was approved though, I will edit this all outNathan the Machinist ). When I saw this posted I had the same “What the Hell” reaction as I did with the boot daggers.

Thought of you and that knife when this came up, you did it the right way, Nathan was generous to give the okay and that was a cool project. If one is going to intentionally borrow design elements from another maker, the respectful thing is to ask permission first. When a friend wanted a wharnecliffe made with "the most comfy handle ever, the EDC" I reached out to Nathan and Lorien before ever putting pencil to paper.

I didn't trace or directly copy. I worked in Illustrator, putting anchors at points that define parameters I want, like 5" blade. I was certainly inspired by Mark's FFS and wanted to try my 10" wheel on my new grinder, but I would happily put the final piece beside any CPK model to show differences. If this is a one-off personal project I don't have a problem with it. But tracing my design and sending it to a waterjetter and manufacturing multiple copies (with their name on it) for sale is different.
