The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

Hello Nathan,

I would like to make a preorder of your new sword coming on the 9th of June. Have you ever send a sword to Germany. Are you experienced to ship it there without a problem. Please let me know, because your delta 3V is famous.
Greetings and hope to our answer.
Greetings Tilo

Hi Nathan,

I love the aesthetics and feel of the HDFK, but it’s a pretty damn big knife.

With the even busty-er SDFK on the horizon, I have to ask: What are the chances you would consider making a slightly scaled down version of the HDFK?

Would it be as “easy” as opening the NASK cad file, going to the edit menu, and putting 80% in the scale to size box (if such a thing exists)? 🤔

Thanks!

Hi Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist . This is not a CPK related question, so I would not mind if you do not answer. I got a CPM CruWear (61.5-62) and MagnaCut (63.5) knives and I want to do satin hand finish on them. I have tried cheap hardware store silicone carbide wet and dry papers but they did could not even put a scratch on them. I can buy some better quality wet and dry papers such as Norton Black Ice, Rhynowet Redline and Starcke Matador or ENGIS EDM DS stones. Do you think better quality will abrasive will help with this task?

more statement than answer, but the next time I have to buy sandpaper it'll be Rhynowet

I second Lorien's suggestion of Rhynowet.
I'll add that getting a pleasing result from hand sanding takes quite a bit of practice and a good set up. I'm not sure I would launch into it on an expensive production knife. You should watch the Nick Wheeler YouTube video on hand sanding.

Thanks I will give Rhynowet a try then to see if it will cut.

Richard338 Richard338 , the knives are not finished. They have quite deep belt scratches, there is not way I can make them worse ;) They are not production, they are custom by the way. I already finished the handles myself as the handle came shaped but unfinished. Now, it is time to try to finish the blades ;)

Hey Nathan, Will the Notta-katana have a "reasonable use" warranty for use on wood?

No?

I don't list any warranties because I don't want to encourage people to do dumb things, but literally everything we make, if you tear it up I will attempt to fix it. And if anything ever fails for any reason because there was something wrong with it, it will be covered. There are some knives such as the Shiv that if it ever fails for any reason short of intentionally breaking it I will replace, repair or refund..

But you folks don't want me to make a real sword that is also going to work well as a garden tool. That's not what it's for and you wouldn't want one that was built for that. This is a weapon that can take a limb off, not a garden tool for trimming off tree limbs.

Will you be able to use it to cut wood? Absolutely. It will be able to do things that would destroy a historical sword and our advanced metallurgy will allow narrower primaries than a historical sword and a thin edge and it will absolutely cut like a motherfucker. Should you use it to process your firewood? Probably not.

After some reflection, That question might have been a bit redundant. When I see "20inch Katana/Waki" and "Keffeler" in the same thread, I immediately think of the wood cutting monster known as the Super Assassin without thinking, "Hey this is a weapon not a deforester". Thanks though for the clarification!

I will keep this by the bed, and wish a motha fucka would break into my home.
Lol. Kidding? 💀
Bus Driver:
That Not-A-Katana is one intruder slicing machine, I know from experience dude. If you know what I mean.

Billy Madison:
No, you don't.

Bus Driver:
Well, not me personally but a guy I know. He CHOPPED UP THREE ZOMBIES AND A BURGLAR. WOOO-EEEE.

Billy Madison:
No he didn't.

Bus Driver:
No, No, he didn't. But you could imagine what it'd be like if he, eh, eh... everybody on, good, great, grand, wonderful, NO YELLING ON THE BUS.
