The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

The K20 is lighter and faster and more "normal" with better reach and would be a better weapon (it's a regular sword), but I have never personally experienced anything with more cutting power/capability than a K18. The width of the K18 blade prevents it from bending or whipping when it hits a hard target and the primary grinds are similar to a comp chopper and can cut a 2X4 in a single strike. You will be hard pressed to find anything that will out-cut a K18.

The K18 was made to win a cutting competition. The K20 is made to kill people.
Thanks for the info, This is what I needed to hear:thumbsup:

I'm not at liberty to say specifically what temperature we temper at, but you should not get it 500. And since there is some margin for error when coaters are doing these things, just because they say it cures at 450 doesn't mean it might not actually hit 550. To stay safe, I recommend processes below 400°.

Anyone in the know, knows that the secret sauce to your HT is threehundredandtwoweeks degrees Fahrenheit. There, I said it!

"Just like Yoko...takes a K20 to a gunfight."
FANTASTIC SIR! HAHAHAHA

Duracoat does not need to be heated , if you want to coat your blade
I've never been impressed with Duracoat's durability.

To be fair, Cerakote is better, but it wears too. My shotguns have Cerakote barrels and they have scuffs all over the finish. Granted, I'm not gentle with my gear since I do a lot of waterfowl hunting on the water and the ocean. So they're constantly getting banged up by branches, rocks, etc.

Garden tool jokes aside, wood chipper blades kinda suck. D3V would be pretty cool to have there. Mine gets dull way too easily eating dirty wood. I know we’ve touched in this before. Too many configurations out there for a CPK generic run, but still.

Hello Nathan,

From monitoring the sites a bit, I think that I have never, ever, seen an EDC for sale on the resale market. I suspect that they are all in someone's pocket. Do you contemplate creating more of these perhaps with a presale at some point?
How do you decide what blades to create next?

I am fortunate to own a few of your knives now. They are all the best.
I have three EDC fixed blades from others. It is a style of knife I like.
I carry the DEK1 aebl as an EDC in my front pocket with the clip removed sometimes. It is just a bit too long for pocket carry, but it works ok.
Hence my interest in the EDC.

Thanks.

Yeah, the EDC is a CPK classic. We want to re-release the original EDC1 with the updated scales and call it the EDC1.2. And the Field Knife, the 8" Shiv, the HDFK and a 10" chopper. We have some classics that I want to revisit, and we may do that next year once the DEK123, K20, Folder, kukri and fireman's breaching tool are cleared out. We're sitting on over a ton of steel here that needs to get worked through and then we'll be able to place an order for the next run of projects, probably about this time next year which will mean a pre-order or two.

I do want to do an integral Shiv and if Abby goes somewhere expensive for school we may do a few very special daggers.

How do I decide? I do what gets us excited and I also look in my crystal ball.

The crystal ball is saying "Build Sam one of these

Whats this mean? We all want to believe it is that one- off dagger but you seem adamant to not produce another.
Would you elaborate?
