The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

I'm not going to take offense to that as a Texan. Texas was settled by poor white trash from Kentucky and Tennessee. So...I'm poor white trash and damn proud of it:)
Well, my forebears weren't from Kentucky, but they were poor...and white. So we got that going for us...

No group has a monopoly on hard times. But not everyone got to become a legend at the Alamo.

(My visit there was a special day for me. I was there with a few other LEOs while in TX to interrogate a prisoner at FCI Three Rivers.)

🎼 Kentucky is the place for me.
Folks are closer there, genetically.
Find a cousin and you've found a bride!
Keep Manhattan, just give me a double wide. 🎵

🎶 Kentuckians have a tendency
To view farm animals romantically.
Goats and horses make you pay a price
But heaven knows those pigs and sheep are nice! 🎼

You shouldn't. You know what girls say after sex here in NC?

"Get off me daddy, you're crushing my Marlboros."

And that's as far down that road as I'm willing to go on a laugh. My old outfit investigated child porn and such...and what little I ever came into contact with was near enough to get me to break the law myself.

Far as I know none of my kin where at the alamo. The fight at the Alamo wasn't what actually caused texas to rise up and fight Mexico. Shortly after that the Mexican army caught 400 Texans in the open and slaughter them to a man. That is what pissed off Sam Houston and the fight was on. Mexico had mostly a conscript army which is why the alamo is famous. 160 odd men fighting 10k, only about 2k where actually trained soldiers. 160 men killed around 2k pretty impressive but in reality they were cannon fodder fed to desperate men defending the walls. The poor bastards at the Alamo were left to their own devices because the local government wouldn't reinforce them even though they knew what was about to happen. Not much different than what happens today. Fucking government.

Blues
I live one county to the west of tarrant(fort worth) at the end of the civil war the leading cause of death was Indian attack. Now when the boys came home from the war that was put to an abrupt halt. Nice to have a trained force of fighting men at your disposal. Not so good for the Comanches.

You know what's weird? We used to get these Elvis sightings. You younger guys might not know what I'm talking about but a long time ago there were all of these people that kept thinking they saw Elvis Presley because people didn't think he was dead

It's always seemed unfair there were never Roy Orbison sightings.

The same phenomenon happened with Biggie and Tupac in the 2000s.

You’ve got a lot coming up in two weeks.🤔🤫👍
Nathan works off a different calendar than most folks...he's actually way ahead of schedule.

I have a question for Nathan, since this is a thread for Nathan questioners.

This old horizontal mill has a drill chuck in the spinny driveshaft thingy. Looking at the other whirly-doodle cutters that came with the mill, it seems that the drill chuck accessory is held in with a threaded stubby nubby inside of a cone-shaped bore.

To remove the drill chuck whirly-doodle, does one simply unscrew it with a pipe wrench, or what? It seems to be pretty solidly attached.

The mill is destined to become a rolling mill for forging modesty sized billets, so it needs to get it set up with a cylindrical roller whatchamacallit, with a matching one mounted on bearings below it, on the slidey side-to-side up-and-down table doohicky.

It is probably retained by a drawbar. Look on the opposite side of the spindle. Loosen the drawbar a turn and smack it with a hammer to release the taper and then unscrew it from the back of the drill chuck and you'll have an empty spindle.

Holy crap, you're exactly right! I totally get it now. Thanks Nathan, you're the best!
