The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

It's funny. Having lived here in the South for over 40 years, the cicada are just kind of there. They don't even register. They're so loud that you can't hear anything else, but, like some women (or a two-stroke chainsaw), after a while you can just kind of tune it out and it's like it's not even there.

So charming. But of course you're not talking about me. 😂

In Ohio we have cicadas. We don’t have rattlesnakes. So while hiking in Northern Georgia I thought it was odd that a cicada would make so much noise in response to my proximity. Then it clicked and I turned to see an angry timber rattler just to side of the trail I just walked through.
Keep in mind my hearing is impaired. I don’t have stereo hearing and can’t get direction on sound as easily as others.

ETA: Ohio actually does have one species of rattlesnake - massasauga rattlesnake.
It’s only found in a limited area. I’ve never seen one. They say we have colonies of timber rattlesnakes in South eastern Ohio. That’s one of the areas in Ohio worth hiking. I’ve been all over the place in the southeastern part of the state. Never seen any.
