The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

You could stow it in some deep shag carpet and have your wife or girlfriend find it with her toe. (True story) ... send pictures...

I store mine in a kydex sheath

Store it with some care. Real swords are as dangerous as loaded firearms.
I promise I definitely won’t do that. She’s a cool lady and I really like her but she’d probably make me sell it or threaten to leave me. So then I’d be single with a deadly K18 still laying around! I don’t have a kydex one yet, but would it be okay to store it in a Pirtle leather one in the meantime or is that a big no no?

What classic blades that you've made would you like to revisit?

Except for the K18, anything I have ever made is on the table.

If I were to revisit the Shiv it would be a variation of the original with an updated handle like the UF2. If we were to go back and do the original OG Field knife, details like the plunge and the choil and the signature location would be tweaked. If I were to do the Skinner, I would update the scales design to include screws rather than flush ground pins. So these would not be carbon copies of the original but rather an updated re-release.

We have done an awful lot of knives over the years and I would like to go back and revisit some classics. There are too many to put on a pool so I want to boil it down to the patterns with the most interest.

Nathan, I am quoting you from the other thread:

Did you mean this as plural number of years to come to return to offering some tweaked classics?

Making fun of my grammar? ...cut me some slack...

I intend to spend about a year revisiting some classics and then return to new original pieces.

Genuinely, I wasn't this time but I guess once bitten, twice smitten?

No mang, I really meant it and was excited that perhaps you would consider offering the runner up to the poll in the following year!

Otherwise, why would anyone cut you some slack? You are handsome already and got great hair. That's all that you'll get...

I will order steel for three or four patterns

Everybody at home has teh covids but since we;re out of tests I'm technically negitive and while I fel funy i think its just alergy
Omicron is really contagious (which is why it's still being transmitted like crazy). Fortunately, for anyone under 50 (under 65, really), it tends to be a lot milder than the previous variants like Alpha and Delta.

Paxlovid actually has shown good results for quicker remediation of symptoms (but should ideally be taken at the onset of symptoms).

Hope everyone's not feeling too bad. For most folks, symptoms appear very similar to one of the 4 common hCovs (the 4 commonly circulating human Coronaviruses, OC43, 229E, HKU1 and NL63, that account for ~15% of colds).

They're generally a little worse than the Rhinovirus induced colds (and last a little longer), but aren't as bad as a full-blown bout of influenza (or one of the earlier Covid variants).

Reading this reminds me of a time when I was a kid. Friends and I were out and about on our bikes deciding where to go next. Two destinations were put forth and my friends looked to me for my vote. I said, “I’m not to-ing feel good. I’m going home.” Turned out I was running a 104* temp.

For the Shiv, would you also consider making the fullers a bit narrower? Aesthetically they seem too wide for the width of the blade IMO, but knowing you there was a reason for it.

Literally me yesterday, I thought mid-afternoon at work that I didn't feel too great, and lo and behold I was at 102.1 F. Today I went in for my first ever for-symptoms COVID test, which I think must be a major achievement given that I've gone basically three years without ever getting a test for symptoms.
