The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

How is that twisted like that? Wtf?

Get yourself a good 3/32" tool and try again? The fasteners on the signature side are red loctite, the fasteners on the back side are removable loctite.

If you totally wreck it, you can return it to the mothership and I will fix it.
I’ll look into new tools, these have served me well for nearly a decade.
I don’t know what the heck happened
I have it in the right hand side loctite side. It just gave.

Question. May I also return my potato knife for sharpening?
I know you dont offer regualr sharpening but this is out of my league for sharp, plus there is some edge knurling which we discussed some time ago.
Thank you

The mothership is a great option but if you like to tinker and a new 3/32 bit doesn't do the trick, I have found tapping in an appropriately sized torx head will do the trick. You will need a new screw though.

The tip that broke off is firmly stuck. No way I can get it out.
I actually put the broken bit in the left side and tried to unscrew it but without another bit locking it down, the bolster just rotate ls in the socket

Packaged them properly so they don't poke out the box and aerate a postal worker and send it home

I think he has two issues.

First, he doesn't know what the hell he is doing. Good, we are all in agreement there.

Second, the broken part of the bit is still in the screw, properly torqued in so that it is seized, and he can't run a new bit in there deep enough to get purchase. Personally, I would either drill the piece of bit out with a small EZ out to the point it is no longer wedged in there and can be tapped free or sacrifice the screw in the manner Yoko described and just get a new fastener and some quality driver bits for next time.

Judging by the twist on the remainder of the bit still in the driver, you torqued that on in there pretty good, you ham fisted summa ma beyutch. I've never been more proud of ya'!
From the twist, it looks like the torque was applied trying to remove the allen screw.

Made that mistake once, using a Craftsman multi-angle allen key. Yeah, lesson learned. Those have a narrow neck (so they can be used at angles other than perpendicular). It's also a weak point that doesn't take much torque to snap (and a hardened steel bit stuck in the allen screw/bolt is a real PITA to try to drill out).

Awesome! Any idea of pricing for the Shiv and scale options? Fingers crossed for AECM, Double Red, and Double Black!
Interested in this too. Will be the deciding factor for getting one, or two.

Is the Shiv 2.0 pretty much going to be the OG Shiv blade with the UF2 handle, or will there be other differences?

Oh, and also wondering what handle scale options will be available for the Shiv preorder.
