The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

I hope whoever gets one of these goes out and uses the hell out of it. I'd hate to see one of these end up being resold in a year in "like new" condition. That thing is just full of ass-kick.

We tested one out a bit today. I have to say, I wish I could use it at my next chop. It's a beast!
A little birdy reports that you did a particular chop in something like 26 seconds? And the little birdy took just four whacks for a 2x4?
We're gonna need to see follow up pics of those growing biceps, JJo!

Nathan, how do you like those J-Flex belts?
-- I see a bunch hanging on the wall (along with the blaze belts, love those), so that starts to answer my question.

Is there something that you find that these belts offer that you haven't found in others?

I grabbed a few on my last order, but I have yet to be able to use them. I have the scallop edged ones, I am planning on using them for the interior curves of handles (choils and such).

I have a question for nathan, im thinking about getting a pvd coating for my edc in 4v for some more protection for the blade. To apply the coating i think the knife has to be heated to 350 degrees would this effect the heat treat of the 4v or would there be any other negative side effects you could think of?

^ 350 wouldn't cause any problem, but be sure those guys really know what they're talking about. You start hitting 450 in spots and you're getting into danger zone.

Thanks for the quick response, im going to keep looking into it and make sure its safe before i commit to anything.

They do as I tell them to. Other belts have a mind of their own. The Klingspore 312 is flexible and conforms to the platen. My platens are hard steel that we precision grind to a truly flat surface. A good belt that conforms to that geometry works best for me, I don't like waves and imperfections in the surface I'm grinding against. I rub the grit off the slice so it doesn't bump. We use a lot of those. There are other alternatives, but we find these belts are very good and don't have stray bits of the wrong grit etc. It's a quality product.

Hi Nathan,
I want to know if you have a timeline on the remaining lc's from the pre-order.

Hi Nathan,
I want to know if you have a timeline on the remaining lc's from the pre-order.

I'm sorry I have no timeline. Most of the preorder has shipped. We shipped 4 this week and will ship 4 next week. There aren't many remaining, we're shipping in the order they were received.

Thanks for the information! Just what I was hoping for.
