Hi Nathan
really like your product, the CPK has given me the experience I had before all for However, I have been troubled a bit recently, shiv received it and found a grit on its surface, is this linked to the previous CPM steel incident? Will this have any effect on the performance of this excellent tool?

I see what you are seeing now

We use that hole for fixturing during the manufacturing process.

A small metal chip or piece of debris pressed a small dent into the steel while it was still soft.

This happens frequently. It is of no consequence.

We then fixture on that same hole after the steel is hard for the edge sharpening. This is done after the tumbling process, when the blade is essentially finished, which puts a little bit of a shine on the area.

What you are seeing is not a flaw in the steel nor a defect in manufacturing but just a normal part of the manufacturing process that is normally not visible, under the handle scales.

Please rest assured, there's nothing wrong with your knife, what you are seeing is just a normal artifact of the manufacturing process and does not represent a problem. They are all this way.

So, overall, do you prefer to field complaints about insignificant rust under the handle scales, a minor scratch or divot under the scales, or a too light etch / stamp / engraving?

Because I can't believe you'd do anybody like that, bro'.

🤣

My personal favorite, to date, is a fella complaining that his wife didn't like it.

Thank you for your professional answer and letting me know more about this

I'm a huge fan of the cpk, the first feeling I had when I got the shiv was amazing, it's so beautiful, the handle has an unparalleled feel, it's very full in the hand, I've only had similar experiences with the bc, I've compared the uf2 to the bfk, and the shiv it's even better. For piercing I compared a double edged dagger and the shiv wins hands down.

Carothers design and ergonomic considerations I haven't seen on any other brand, it's the best.

It is because I love it that I want it to be even better, I may be what is known as an obsessive compulsive. Yesterday Nathan solved my doubts, I am very happy and looking forward to more great products from cpk.

We're happy for you too, G Galaxx

We are a friendly group, by and large, and part of that camaraderie is teasing one another. Nathan and I are friends, and often communicate off the forum via phone or text, and so my post was just a way of poking him because I know that he takes his line of knives, (and anything he does), actually, very seriously and strives to perfect them to the best of his abilities.

A long winded way of saying welcome to the club, and expect a little bit of humor and friendly jibing from time to time. You'll pick up the nuance in short order.

Also, the line about "not being able to believe he'd do anybody like that" is an old joke around here that came from someone who was very upset about something that wasn't worth raising to the level he allowed it to reach. We all used it as a way of teasing Nathan and having good humored fun with one another.

If I can be of assistance to you, feel free to reach out...and welcome to the club. (It's a good one.)

Good Morning Nathan,
I've been trying for months to buy a knife, Jo has emailed me a couple times, and I thought I was in 2 weeks ago, but I haven't heard anything. my email is ..., and it would be sweet if I could get a 3" EDC or a 5" Basic in delta 3V. I first found the video where you tested the knives on a rusty chain, and I said that is the one and only knife I will ever need. Hopefully you see this and bestow some grace on a fan. Thank you -Nick

That answer alone says a lot about the great atmosphere at this club! I've browsed through a lot of threads here to get a feel for the different vibes and read everyone's insights, it's a friendly and fun place to be.
Nathan's professionalism and dedication has come through in his products, and we are willing to pay for them and say to our friends around us, hey Nathan his products are really good, do you want to buy and experience them together?
I am honored to join the club. But I also know that there may be some cultural differences due to geographical differences and I am learning them. Please also give me more 'humorous snark' if it bothers anyone, it's a great start and I appreciate your kindness, thank you!

I wouldn't post your email publicly like that. Scammers will send you fake invoices and rip you off.

Best way to get one other than preorder is to be ready to be lightning fast on Fridays if Nathan drops something. Most of my CPKs have been gotten from people reselling. Did I pay too much probably. Heck I paid too much for my truck but that was what I wanted. If you are patient you will get something. My advice is to place what you want in the WTB forum and set Carothers for sale thread to alert you anytime something is posted. But be prepared to act fast. Hope this helps. I'm still learning.
