The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

I had a Sanrenmu that was a clear rip-off of a Sebenza. For a $12 jarbenza, it was shockingly good. Like, I wouldn't have bought it if it cost more, but it was solid. I had a friend who needed a pocket knife and only had an absolute garbage knife, and gave him that. He loved it and took it on multiple deployments.

I'm not trying to say that it is okay for Sanrenmu to rip off actual quality designs, but there is a part of me that always feels like at least they make quality cheap rip-offs.

But I had to check the price they are charging for this specific knife, and it is not a cheap knife. I make a bit of an excuse in my own mind for companies selling sub-$20 knives, because in my mind they aren't competing with high end makers for customers. But once you get into the price range of that particular rip-off, that is a different beast.

Dear Nathan and Blademates,

I'd like to have a pair of double black canvas scales and blue Ti hardware for a D3V BFK.

What sholuld I do?

I'm in Europe, can't see CPK homepage, but can pay via PayPal...

I'm sorry, we no longer ship overseas. There have been too many problems with it, we had to stop. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Slight drop point with the belly towards the tip. It would work as a large skinning knife, a tradesman's knife, and would be very useful in Bushcraft as well.

Looks like an outstanding general purpose design that would serve a person well

You might call it a "field knife"
A good design is a good design. There are only so many variations that can be made. I like drop points.

When a master was teaching me how to sharpen knives, he also always made me put a choil on the knife. I used to ask, like, “why though?”

He would always say something like:
“Don’t ask stupid questions — just do it. A knife is always better with a choil !

Nathan

I have recently heard on a chopper you want the handle to be small on the inside and longer on the outside so when you grab it there is no restrictions on the palm side but with the handle to bite down on the inside not uncomfortably but a hug. With the inside being 4 inches or so and the outside being 5 to 5.25 inches.

I’m curious what is your take on this compared to your designs? I see you have a different design for your choppers for your intended purposes.

Thanks!
