The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

The change was significant enough that there was some discussion at Crucible (RIP) whether it should still be called 3V. They floated the idea of calling it 3V mod. But they had already made a modification to 3V that they had already called 3V mod and that's not what this is. So we decided upon 3V Delta. Delta meaning "change".

So now we have Delta 3V and 3V Delta. Which I call tweaked Delta 3V.

Jo is delighted by all of this

I really suck at naming things 😞
I still say that the name "double-D 3V" was a missed opportunity... ;) 😁

I like adhering to tweaked D3V just because 3VD, just as a logo but not as this new formatted steel, was actually used by another entity in the past, an entity which shall still remain nameless. I think if you mention this to Jo, she will appreciate your inadvertent brilliance in this regard.

3VD sounds like something you should talk to a doctor about.

Nathan, I really like the random number generator being integrated in the next upcoming Friday's sale on 4/23, albeit at the expense of the burden on our SuperMod. My Q is, will you please consider limiting the claim time to 1-2 minutes or a certain number of claimants after your OG post after 2 PM so that we can still adhere to the spirit of flash sales and not having to wait for hours to get like 100 entries? Say 30-40 claimants at most for 10 available SCs will offer better odds to make things still exciting. JMO
I. Missed this.. What do I need to know? I was visiting grandchildren in the mountains

Hi my friend ;)

Looks like they are going to try a new format to give thr slower keyboard ninjas more of a chance to be able to get one of those 10 to be offered Standard Choppers during the Friday sale on April 24th at 3 PM EDT.

The plan is for all those who mage to post their claim in the first minute to be eligible for the SC (if that is what they are calling dibs on) and then our SuperMod Blues has kindly agreed to use a random number generator for those who made the 1 minute cut off to draw 10 winners. This will make the people who have slightly slower connection or acumen than the top 10 speed demons an equal chance to be able to partake in this 60 seconds window claiming and then number drawing.

Nathan beings on the evil genius side had suggested adding something else to this exercise which did not go down too well, so we won’t get into that.

Hope that you had a great visit with the grand kids.

Asking for a friend…
How’s the kukri coming along?
😊

The addition of the Standard Chopper into the Light Chopper run pushed it back a little bit but that project is wrapping up on the machines now and the Kukri is in process.

(the boy is decking steel now)

I'm glad that we got, what we got, when we got it, because the cost of steel and carbide will make this project difficult to produce again in the future. This is probably going to be a one-time run.

The K20 blanks are stacking up waiting to be beveled.

Steel for the Skinner run is made and scheduled to start the rolling process in about 2 weeks.

I’ve got my technique down on Friday sales, but I’m glad to hear about the draw as it seems more fair/equitable. To make it even more so, run your sales every 4 weeks rather than 2. Running it every 2 weeks means some will get 2 knives every 4 weeks. If done every 4 weeks nobody doubles up and more individuals get a single knife. Jo might like one batch a month vs 2 as well…

Can you proxy for me? :) Its hard getting into the top 10 for the popular knives. So instead of 10 popular knives every two weeks, its 20 popular knives once a month? It is still hard to get into the top 20.

I’m still for the draw. But following your example if you did it once a month 20 different people would get a knife. Every two weeks and maybe 5 fast people would get 2 knives and 10 would get one…

While on the steel question, what are your thoughts on Ztuff and other Zapp steels?

They offer some quality products. However, they don't actually make steel. I acquire the materials I need without introducing a middle man that isn't necessary when I'm already buying entire heats.
