I am fortunate to already be part of the Kukri pre-order. Which chopper would you recommend that does the things well that the Kukri will not be as good at? e.g., Light chopper for small vegetation to complement the Kukri for heavy.

In all seriousness. I do believe there is a very real chance. Probably more than one in 10. Of a conflict that involves extended power outages and lack of access to services. This is why I have accumulated the generators and diesel fuel and food reserves. Because I get angry when I'm hungry and I hate to not have air conditioning

There is a very real chance, within the next few years, that some of you are going to need to go days, weeks, possibly even months, without power, food, or possibly even water.

So Nathan, have you read "Lights Out" by Ted Koppel. I'm not really a prepper, but can definitely take care of my family in a situation. This book made me rethink a lot of things. Another good read is the book series that starts with "One Second After" which is more of a thriller that takes place after EMP's take out all of US. Way more scary that any type of ground war...

Speaking of the upcoming Kukri, would it be possible to have an option for a small mini-knife in the sheath, like traditional Kukris?

Just to clarify, I don’t mean the mini-knife itself has to be traditional—just the idea of including one.

In real use, a Kukri is great for heavier tasks like clearing brush or chopping wood, but it’s not exactly ideal for smaller stuff like peeling an orange or dressing game.

If making a dedicated mini-knife is too much, maybe a sheath option that lets us attach the skinner you’re already making could be another way to go.

You should be able to use the eyelets on the Kydex to strap two sheaths together.

Question:
This chopper appears to have a taller primary bevel ~1 7/16" than what I see in older Medium Chopper photos, bevel top looks closer to fuller. The Carothers logo also appears larger. Are my observations correct and can you inform us on any other design enhancements on the new SC?

Yes. There have been a couple of small advancements to the steelmaking process since the original Choppers that are now probably moot. I'm not at Liberty to discuss them.

There have been a couple of small changes to the heat treat process concerning the material condition before the process starts and also layout and spacing in the oven to improve heat uniformity and quench rate.

The bevel geometry has been tweaked a little for superior cutting characteristics. Thinner edge, narrower primarys. This knife would be competitive in a blade sports event. It's reasonably light, well balanced and hits well above its weight.

I left a little more meat between the fullers to eliminate a potential failure mode from heavy batoning.

I stretched the blade out a hair, it's physically a little larger.

We no longer clean and degrease the blades before assembling. I'm now leaving a thin film of oil under the scales.

There are some other minor changes such as small changes to the plunge geometry, different engraver size, and I no longer ream the lanyard hole, it is interpolated to size.

I got rid of the rear lanyard hole.

And probably a bunch of other minor stuff I can't think of at the moment. (Jo and I are at lunch)

If it's a knife that we made, you can send that in for warranty repair.
