The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

Depending on the circumstances I might take my old Behemoth Chopper?

This hasn't actually come up yet but it has certainly come up where it was the tool I needed and I went to grab it many times, just not on a hike.

I really like that knife

The newer Behemother is objectively a better knife in every way but, my old Behemoth is my favorite knife and I look for an opportunity to use it any chance I get

Will the new K20's fit sheaths/scabbards from the first run? I seem to recall you being unsure prior to production.

Yes,

I was considering a few minor tweaks, but I am a staunch believer in not changing something just to change something and tweaking the length an eighth of an inch, just to be different, ultimately makes no sense and serves no purpose.

The K20 was going to be a K20.1, but I changed my mind because I felt it really served no real legitimate purpose and it would be a disservice to the folks who already had a K20 who might want some of the scales and scabbard options that will be available for people in the new run.

The K20 was perfect, IMO, changing it would be a mistake.

Instead, I want to make available some thin titanium liners for the scales that extend beyond the scales into the ricasso area to create a feature that will allow some clearance to the saya and create a solid attachment without drag, somewhere between a classic wakizashi and a WWII Japanese sword.

We are not beholden to convention, but sometimes things were done a certain way for a good reason and I want to incorporate some of those features into the new sword and I would like for them to be retroactively compatible. Changing the sword design, without a real and good reason, would have been a mistake, it was practically perfect. If you have been to the October Outlaw cut and have had a chance to use one, I think you will understand what I'm saying here. In my opinion it really has no weakness, nothing that needs to be changed. And a tweak to the assembly to better incorporate a saya does not need to be incompatible with previous builds.

I may be wrong, but I think that someone had requested that Josh, at REK, create thst serrated edge. He did a pretty clean job of it. It looks like a Spyderco serrated edge.

It really is clean work. That is a competently applied serration. Whoever did that, they did it well. I hate it so much.

I don't wish them any ill

Well, maybe a little bit

I hope they develop a painful toenail fungus and think twice before modifying my work like that again.

Not just them and their own toenails

I hope all of their friends and family and loved ones also develop some kind of an annoying itch for two or three days. This is my curse upon them.

Curse them. I cursed them and their healthy derma.

That's a pretty strong curse by my standards...

One change I would have really loved alongside the habaki: if you’d made the K20/20.1 with a metal tsuba/guard machined like the kashira/pommel.

I remember some one else finding that knife and posting it in the past

I think Gusbuster Gusbuster might own that one now

Guilty as charged! I’m not the original owner, I got it from the Arizona Custom Knife Shop in Florida. Josh did confirm he did the serrations. Superb job as usual. There was also a serrated UF2 with DLC coating for sale there.

What about the person who commissioned the mod?

I assume the upcoming BEHEMOTHEST might be objectively even better (best?).

What blade length did you settle on? - (13+ inches?)

This and any other info on this highly anticipated project is appreciated! (wip pics?)
