The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

Hey Nathan, I was wondering if there's any way to fix a slight warp in Micarta so the blade and handle can fit together perfectly. If there is, I'd really appreciate it

I can't think of a good way to actually remove the warp in the micarta. Micarta should not warp. It does happen, but it shouldn't.

I could be wrong, but I think you have four options. 1: accept it as it is, use it and be happy with it. 2: fill in the gaps for comfort. 3: remove the scales and grind them down to match the tang to eliminate the gap. 4: go back in time and get a CPK that doesn't usually have this kind of problem and is warrantied if it does.

The micarta we use is two or three times more expensive than some other commercially available material. That sounds like a lot, but the actual cost difference, per knife, is not even enough difference to buy a good cheeseburger. I do not understand why manufacturers would use an inferior material in this application. It is pennywise and pound foolish.

I should probably produce those again, huh?
