The "Ask Nathan a Question" Thread

Nathan, would Terotuf take an oil-based dye such as what would be used on leather?
I'm guessing no, but I'm not the pro.
Thanks.

I don't know. Personally I wouldn't recommend coloring your scales because it will only be a surface treatment and would rub off or scratch in use. That and I would expect it to change tactile quality of the TT.

Nathan is the cutting geometry of the HC closer to the CC than the BC? Will it basically be similar to the CC, but with a little more meat behind the edge for durability?

Yes. The HC will have the same moderately narrow grinds as the MC and CC. The BC is a little more robust though still not as obtuse as the original HC. This particular geometry has been dialed in well for cutting performance that bites deep and pops a chip well with minimal binding. It will result in a tall grind on the HC due to the thickness at the spine.

edit to add: This taller grind results in a smaller flat above the grind and a smaller fuller. The redesign is the same thickness and uses the same amount of steel but it's redistributed to wedge less and cut better. The original HC was unbreakable first and a cutter second. On the redesign I've backed off the unbreakable aspect to better enhance its cutting performance. Don't worry though, it's still going to be very stout "a bit overbuilt".

Thanks! Looks like I’ll be on the preorder list for the HC.:)

I think I am just going to settle for one of each. Just haven't yet been able to quite decide on antique micarta or that new burlap micarta Nathan recently began to machine.

I think taller grinds look great on a knife. I'm trying to picture that, along with a smaller fuller. I think it's going to be excellent either way!
I agree, trying to visualize what the fuller will look like on the HC! Maybe (I am Probing her Nathan) it will be roughly the same dimensions as found on the HDFK? (question)o_O:D
