The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

I didn’t know that! Thanks. Is it a pivot bushing like the sebenza that eliminates the needs for tuning the pivot, other than 3000g polishing of the washers?

Yes the setup looks pretty much like the 21. If you would like to improve the action, you can go very slowly on the washers using a very high grit abrasive. I recommend 1 or 0.5 micron diamond lapping paste spread very very thinly on paper. it will polish the washers perfectly shiny :)

It's been a while since I had the knife apart, but my recollection is that the pivot bushing in the washered Hati was like the one in my Sebenza 21's. You might just be getting me to disassemble the knife to see.... o_O

Mine will be here tomorrow. But my tools are at work and I won’t be working nights, when i do knife maintenance, for a few weeks.

Sweet. The seller told me this one was tight so if that’s the case, it will need some polishing. I’ve done several sebenzas, using 2k sandpaper on a flat platten. And really really light. I have a set of calipers I use for car building duty that I use to keep tabs on how I’m doing.

That's just how I do my Sebenzas and did the Hati too. I tape the 2K paper to a sheet of glass or on our smooth top electric range, go a little at a time, and check 'em with my digital calipers.

Don’t know if I’ve seen that one yet. It looks full sized. What is it please?

my apologies. Should have included the model with photo.

it's the Shiro/Williams 110KS in Anchor Grey. So many nice details on this one.
4.25" but the full size blade disappears in the frame and in your pocket.

Here ya go, SVTFreak SVTFreak . I got my Hati out to carry today and realized it was actually time for a cleaning, interior polish, and re-lube as I hadn't worked on the knife since I purchased it off the Exchange two years back and got the action to where it should be. Here's the pivot assembly parts before cleaning things up...

...and just before putting the G10 show side back on.

Interestingly, when I got the knife the lockup was all but hard against the lockbar shoulder. There was no lock rock back then and still none two years later after myriad opening closing cycles.

Before today's tune-up the flipping action had become very light-switchy. It now will push button easily and is wicked smooth--very CRK hydraulic, free-dropping with the lockbar released but it has enough detent tension to have to shake down somewhat vigorously. Very nice, actually.

I know you won't have time to work on it, but we'd love to see your knife and hear your impressions after un-boxing. :)

Lol ChazzyP ChazzyP Yep I got it in and I love it. It flips just fine. Not quite as good as my last one but I’m sure a little break in will make it lightning fast. It does have a little more of the sebenza hydraulic feel, especially on closing. The s30v will be just fine. Again, my last one in that from them was probably one of the best steels shiro does. And the carbon fiber scale is sweet. The stone wash is a bit coarser than what they apply to them now. All in all, I’m surprised they stopped making knives like this. I’m surprised they don’t garner a following more than they do. I like it so much, I decided to sell my hati r that saw most of my duty use. This one will fare better to contamination in the pivot that might cause some rust or staining on the bearing pivots. I still have a f95 nudist, neon zero and 111 on bearings lol.

I’ll take it apart one day but I might wait till it needs it.

SVTFreak SVTFreak . That's a sweet knife, bro. I really dig Shiros that are older and a bit different. That S30V will serve you fine--I've got that steel in my F3 Python and NeOn UL and have never felt shortchanged by it. The CF on your knife looks excellent and having the "extracts" on your blade is very interesting as I had always thought that to be a newer feature that showed up on the first runs of R series knives.

What do you have for a backspacer--CF or Ti? My only wish with my knife would be to have a Ti backspacer to match the stonewashed lockside instead the G10 which is just a bit too much of the same for my taste, though I'm certainly pleased enough with the bright orange scale.

I’d love an orange one. I had one before but stupidly sold it.

It’s Ti backspacer. I think the CF Haiti’s all had ti for them. And the cutout is very unusual. Normally, the older ones that had the cutout where the custom and more limited versions. The only one with cutout I had handled before was the purple club knife. I’ve seen the standard run with the jimping but this is the only one I’ve seen with both the sculpting, the jimping and on a full flat grind blade on washers. Not saying there aren’t more, as I definitely am no expert, but it is uncommon as far as I had known.

I just opened a bunch of popsicles for my kiddos with it!

Back when 1, 2, and 3 bears was a more common thing, what would determine the level of 'bears' would be a combination of blade steel, config and handle materials.

Some examples:

1 Bear:
- Hati, G10, Elmax w/ full flat grind and no jimping
- Hati, CF, S30V with full flat grind and jimping

2 Bear:
- Hati, CF, S30V w/ extract cut + jimping
- Hati, CF, S90V w/ full flat grind

3 Bears:
- Hati, CF, M390 w/ extract cut + jimping

Has anyone here seen a Custom Division NeOn available like this one, but without a Damasteel blade? Maybe in M390 or SV90 something else? I'm on the hunt for a contoured and 3D-machined NeOn. Any leads will be appreciated.

Just some info for your hunt, the NeOn in the second link you posted is for the original run of NeOns, before custom division was a thing. There's 30 of them out there and they pop up once in a while. It's the purest configuration of the neon with just full ti handles and an S90V multi-faceted blade nothing too crazy going on. There have since been actual CD NeOns which have had the same blade but with zirconium hardware (this is before the Mk.2 NeOn with damasteel) and another one with the same full flat grind as on the production NeOn but with blue hardware and a very unique backspacer. CPP posted the newest NeOn NL which is actually a current CD production run and is your best bet as the newer CDs are done in runs of 50. Could be worth looking out for those as I see them posted for sale in some of the Shirogorov groups most often.

So my new one would be a 2 bears hati? I never did learn the bears designations lol.
Thanks miko.

Impressive family pic, ChazzyP ChazzyP . I still like that orange one.

mikomonday mikomonday , did production Hati's not change to BBs until the advent of the R series, or were there 3 Bears Hati's with bearings before? I know the Hati Club knives were MRBS and I imagine there were other limited editions on bearing systems.

I liked the Bears designations, though some found them confusing as the knives that came through the US dealer never used them. We went through all of that many pages back with several posters wondering if their knife was an R or a 3 Bears. Of course it was both. Tom was very helpful on that subject with his posts and some correspondence we had over at USN a while back.
