The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

Yes so if I had to make an educated guess that config would be 2 bears, but as I always say buy the knife based on the config you like. I know many people get really caught up on how many 'bears' their knife has.

Regarding the bearings question, yes the HatiR was the first Hati to be on ball bearings in a full production serial piece. The Club Hati indeed had MRBS but the footprint is not the same and has 4 row MRBS (the footprint for the bearing races in the Club is the same as DRRBS used in Sergeys older customs and the Seashell Hati and they are interchangeable actually) The Seashell Hati and of course older CD Hatis used DRRBS and SRRBS roller bearings respectively

So to answer the question regarding the bears designation, when the Revised knives came out with MRBS there really wasn't a '2 bears classification' anymore (which is good since that was really the murkiest with some two bears knives having a more premium steel but simpler blade config/handle materials and vice versa) so with the R knives you really have the basic models (would be previously considered a 1 bear) and the Revised versions (previously 3 bear) you see this across pretty much all models in the lineup except the NeOn now:

F3:
- Non-R version w/ G10 handles, SRBS, no internal milling and a basic FFG blade in steels like Elmax, CTS-40P, etc.
- F3R w/ CF, Vanax 37 w/ extract cut or M390 w/ 5/6th grind (blade flats + jimping)

Hati:
- Now discontinued but there was an olive green G10 knife on washers in Vanax 37 w/ 5/6th grind made during the same time as HatiR
- HatiR w/ MRBS and M390/Vanax w/ 5/6th grind

95:
- F95NL w/ no internal milling, basic FFG blade in Elmax and SRBS
- F95R, T, Nudist Slim, 18, 19 etc. w/ internal milling and MRBS

111:
- 111 basic config w/ blade flats, G10/STEF scales in Elmax etc.
- 111 w/ CF and M390 and fuller in blade

Thanks for that info miko. I’m not hung up at all on how many bears it is, only was curious as it’s not one I have seen before. Granted, i have very limited experience with them in hand. I did buy it because I like the combination as a whole. I just profiled the edge and, man, their s30v is hard. It took a bit of patience and excitementing to get it as keen as I like.

green g10 hati? Wow. That would be awesome. I’d live an orange g10 one but I’ve bought 3 in as many weeks and need to slow down a bit. Gotta spend some on the hot rod now.

Does he have an email? I don’t have Instagram. I’d love to possibly have orange g10 for my hati r.

Hey guys! So I just got my first Shiro a week ago or so, from a member on here. Its incredible. Was looking for some info on it to see if I got a good deal, if it's a 3 bears, and just to post it! I see ChazzyP has one too in his family pic...its a 95R Vanax 37 MRBS with the blue oveIMG_20200303_202843_01.jpg IMG_20200303_202847_01.jpg r bronze ano. Couldnt be happier...and its mint! I'll upload a pic right now. Lmk what you think and if you can tell me any info and also what the knife would go for right now if I were to sell it(not that I ever will lol)

I would love if shiro would make a 3.25 or 3.5" version of this knife. Texturing on the Ti and all.

Nice knife, Paul L. Paul L. , and welcome to Bear country. I checked out the sales thread and the seller's pics on Imgur and you indeed got a good deal on that knife. As has been mentioned both earlier and more recently here, Shirogorov is no longer using the #Bears categories, although they were still in effect when the R Series was introduced and any knife in that series could be considered a Three Bears.

What's the blade stock thickness on your F95R's blade? Mine is the somewhat unusual for its vintage 3.5mm and came with the white 3 Bears card as it was sourced from Russia.

That's great news! I actually measured a few days ago as I heard about the either 4mm or 3.5mm blades, and mine is actually a 3.5mm too!

And mine came with a shirogorov card...black with everything filled in with pen and a serial number as well filled in.

The Custom Division NeOn with Damasteel blade now on Recon1 is close. Contoured and milled scales with pivot slots on both sides. Pricey.

Put the transmission for the hot rod back together. She didn’t get much use other than opening a couple bags. But she was introduced to trans fluid. Nasty crap. Now I’m chilling waiting for battery to charge up since I was a goofball and left the key on last week.

Here ya go, SVTFreak SVTFreak . I got my Hati out to carry today and realized it was actually time for a cleaning, interior polish, and re-lube as I hadn't worked on the knife since I purchased it off the Exchange two years back and got the action to where it should be. Here's the pivot assembly parts before cleaning things up...

...and just before putting the G10 show side back on.

Interestingly, when I got the knife the lockup was all but hard against the lockbar shoulder. There was no lock rock back then and still none two years later after myriad opening closing cycles.

Before today's tune-up the flipping action had become very light-switchy. It now will push button easily and is wicked smooth--very CRK hydraulic, free-dropping with the lockbar released but it has enough detent tension to have to shake down somewhat vigorously. Very nice, actually.

I know you won't have time to work on it, but we'd love to see your knife and hear your impressions after un-boxing. :)
the hati on washers action is close to if not the best ive had so far. Its just sublime. I wont polish my washers cause i doubt id be careful enough and remove too much material. Also its my only knife for now, for no good reason i screwed up sharpening my tanto inkosi and lost noticeable length. Hopefully ill send it off soon for a new blade. Ironically i was just touching up a prior job. I had reprofiled and polished up the edge before.

What's everyones thoughts on the new F3 NS?
Looking for my first Shiro. I am/was deciding between a Neon Zero or a Hation Zero...then this came on my radar. Now my decision is even harder. It might be a bit on the large size for my needs but it looks so awesome, much more interesting than the Hation or Neon. (Which are starting to look a bit plain now that they don't have the external milling.
