I ordered various Shiro parts (ball bearing, body and pivot screws) directly from the official Shiro representative at the other forum. It did take sometime as the parts were for two collaborations and they had to manufacture at least some of them and then ship them from Russia. If you’ve already bought into Shiro as a brand it’s worth the wait.

Hey guys,
Need someone or several of you to chime in here on the daily usability of the 111. I posted this question elsewhere, but I would love to be able to have one in hand to decide. Barring that, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

One of my most basic tasks I use a folder for (which I find gives a lot of simple. "daily usability" feedback) is slicing an apple. The 95mm blades are getting a little long for certain detail cuts. I'd like to take a 111 for a little test ride before plunking down my $$. But for sure handedness, the 3D contoured F3NS scales are hard to beat! That's a real draw for the new gen 111 in spite of the possibly too long blade. Agony of decision here.

personally I find the 111 too long for my EDC. I have large hands and the 95 length suits me perfectly. If you feel the 95 is a bit long, the 111 will surely feel too long

it’s a great knife don’t get me wrong - it will certainly slice an apple - but I feel its’ uses are a bit different than pure EDC. I’d complement my 95 by adding a 111 but the 111 could not replace the 95 - if that helps

I carry my 111 fairly often. It works great for cardboard etc. It is definitely a big knife. When I slice an apple I use my neon that is also in my pocket daily.

Others have already answered really well, but my 2¢ is that it's like kitchen work. I'm really, really comfortable with a 10" chef's knife- I use different grips for different tasks, and different parts of the blade depending on what I'm using the knife for. I use it to do a lot of things my wife will use a paring knife for- including cutting an apple. I'll actually use it to peel an apple on occasion, because I'm just comfortable with it. My wife on the other hand has been known to slice a brisket with that paring knife- so to each their own! It's just about what your comfortable with. Plus- my daily ritual with my EDC is opening mail and the 111 is an absolute laser beam for that!

Last piece, the WHY- most knives are designed to cut on a draw stroke. Longer blade = more cutting capability by this logic, but you only need use what you need; so it just about potential. The 111 is light and ergonomically designed so there's no tip control lost (for me).
