I FINALLY figured out WHY I love my Zero Tolerance ZT 0470 so much!

Hey that’s cheating to substitute a ZT for a Shiro 🤣.

Your pictures kill me with you taking pics of your knife while your wife is walking the dog way ahead of you lol.

How many times during a dog walk, would you say that your wife turns around, and rolls her eyes at you, while you’re straggling snapping away pictures? Too funny! “Just one more pic honey😝

On our Alaskan Cruise for our 25th anniversary, most of my photos were pictures of her talking photos... Now that got an eye roll 🤣

Also, I did include a photo of a Shiro, it just wasn't mine - it was a ZT clone... :p

Ok guys, looking for some tips please. Decided to pull my F3 apart (first time taking a Shiro apart) to potentially dye the scales.

The non captive pivot was a pain till I found the tip of squeezing on top on the blade downwards while it was closed, and came out easy.

I cannot get the rear screw out to save my life so far without the other side just spinning. It does have blue locktite on it due to it falling out when I first got it. Fell out in the car and was lucky to find it.

So far I’ve put heat to it with a hair dryer and tried to turn for a couple hours and nothing. Set just the rear of scales in boiling water for a bit and nothing. Hair dryer again for a while and nothing. Tried taping the smooth side of bolt too but nothing. Tried rapping it with a small hammer and brass punch a bunch both sides and nothing. Plastic punch acting as a wedge in between liners to apply pressure, greatly increased the torque required to turn screw, but nothing.

It’s in the freezer now and will try rapping on the bolts again after it chills out. Then after defrosting I guess back to the hair dryer and boiling water…. Good lord lol

Loctite on non-captive screws is always a risk. I'm sure you already have it back together, but I wouldn't add any more when reassembling. The build up that is surely still present in the threads should be enough to keep things from wiggling out.

Heck no I didn’t locktite it again lol. I’d rather the screw fall out and lose it, then deal with that again haha.

I think I panicked when I first got it. Had just got the Shiro in my possession in the Post Office parking lot. Was flipping it for maybe a minute or two, and noticed that the rear screw was gone already. Luckily I found it between my seat and console and fished it out. As soon as I got home I put some blue on it.

I’ve never had a problem with Blue Locktite, but I guess the non captive screws and these funky screw heads were a bad match 😞

I still use a tiny bit of lock tight in the chapstick-like tube on things like this, especially with all the Hinderers I take apart and modify.

I'm glad you finally got your F3 apart. LocTite and free spinning pivots are a real PIA. I try to never use it on any knife as I'd rather check it in the morning before pocketing and make a little adjustment than wrassle with it when disassembling. Only those that chronically loosen after a few cycles will get thread locker. Shiros are real easy to field adjust and I keep all but one thumbnail tight as their centering is so good and it's so easy to give one a little tweak if I notice a little play.

Coincidentally, I carried my only LocTited Shiro today as the Tabargan was one of those chronic looseners and I finally put a little blue thread locker on the pivot threads, though this one is pretty easy to break free with a PacMan screw on the show side and a washered Torx opposite. BTW, old friend A anvil_den , who hasn't been around these pages for quite a few years, suggested using clear nail polish for a light thread locker. I did use it on some body screws that habitually loosened and it seemed to do the trick.

..and as I have a lot of pics left over from today, here's the old school 100NS that I carried and mentioned above...

Really wish I could find a Tabargan/100NS for sale. So hard to find
They do pop up here every once in a while. I'd be tempted to buy one like the one I stupidly sold--contoured CF/M390--if I saw one, but all I've seen are ones like mine, and as much as I like mine a lot, I don't need two the same. What I'd love to find is an original 110 with the sliding bar lock. I haven't seen one of those for sale for many years.
