The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

Anyone have a Hation Lite? I think I will pick one up next time they’re available.

Went camping this weekend and took the Shiro ;-)

Sign up for email alerts at Recon 1, I saw that a Neon Ultra-light in Elmax went up for sale and was sold today. Also, check this forum for HatiOns for sale, I've seen several come up since they were released

Yup got the same email and was lukewarm toward NeOn ultra-Lite, but when went back to mull it over in about an hour from the initial email, they were already sold out! I don't feel too badly through since I prefer the NeOn which I already own. Like you had said, signing up for email from Recon1 is the best way. I can attest that it works :)

Casinostocks Casinostocks Yep, signed up for the Recon1 email alerts. Just never get lucky to read them before they’re sold, lol.

I actually might swing toward getting the NeOn Lite instead of the HatiOn Lite after reading CPP’s write-up again. I think the HatiOn Lite might be a little to lite weight wise for me. The backspacer on the NeOn Lite will make the knife have better balance and a little over 3oz is the right amount of heft for me.

The balance on the HatiOn seems just right to me. I wonder what it would be like with the NeOn’s heavier show scale.

The edge that Josh put on F95T is so super clean, robust and scary sharp that I'm tempted to also send in my NeOn Lite which has no where the issues that the F95T had upon its arrival. I only went with the middle of the road W,E at 600 grit treatment with 15* per side and a 17* micro, but I can only imagine what sort of scalpel type of edge Josh can produce with a mirrored edge!!!

And now the lil buggers are all gone. Lasted about, oh, 4 hours or so? Have no idea the Qty. Congrats to those who got themselves some and as usual, pics or it didn't happen :)

Recently upgraded to the W.E. Go sharpening system. About 6 knives sharpened and the stones are just smoothing out nicely. I added the 1200/1600 stones to the kit. (200/600 diamond, 800/1000 diamond, 5/3.5 micron strops). I also got the angle cube (which is a must).

Finally got the courage to go at the F95T Vanax 37. She's a laser beam now!

I found the factory edge was 21 degrees per side. A little obtuse for what I'd prefer, but I hate a broad primary bevel, so I kept it at 21.

Sharpened to 1600 grit, then I reset the angle to about 19 degrees to strop and polish the bevel.

Clamping the FFG in the W.E. is a trick. I set the clamp so it is just pinching the back edge, with the spine horizontal on the gauge pins, then I rock the handle down, raising the tip about 1/2" so the front edge of the clamp is about to pinch. Then I lock it down. This puts the tip just about level with the heel, and the belly is the highest part just at the front edge of the clamp. Works perfectly with uniform contact from heel to tip.
