The Beer Scout Knife

I got a Trestle Pines Grand Portage, beautiful knife with CPM 154, but can't appreciate my struggles free hand sharpening. I think my dream knife would be a Beer Scout using Buck's 420 hc, something that sharpens easy. I got a Case Trapper w/caplifter that is everything I want except it's not a Barlow. Besides, how cool is a knife with a 'Beer Scout' tag and easy to sharpen. Okay, 1095 sharpens easy, but it rusts. Also I have no use for patina. C'mon GEC, a stainless Beer Scout, you can do it and you will sell every single one as fast as the 1095 versions sold.

There ya go! :D

Thanks Bob. I had a couple of those and passed one on to ~P. It is now one of those that make up her "Three Amigo" knives.

Yup! Boy howdy, did I smile when I saw your picture just now.

Meanwhile, the 3 Amigos ride on:

(Seen here in the grooves in the lid of a late 1800's "Railway Tool Chest" I picked up yesterday afternoon-- if possible, even more distressed than the Amigos! o_O)

Are these still in production? I've seen a few sell on the exchange, but out on the interwebs they seem scarce. I love the design.
GEC has Beer Barrel Oak Beer scouts for sale on their actual Online store. I don't think many people look at their site for sales since it's usually sold out.

Is it too early to start clamoring for more Beer Scouts from GEC? Maybe a 2018 Blade Forums version too.View attachment 780603

I'd love to see one with a clip or spear point blade. (I was hoping for that before the last run, too, and was a bit disappointed that it was a sheepsfoot again, but at least the beer barrel oak added something interesting and unique to that run.)

It’s never too early to talk Beer Scouts. I’ll take my clip point 440C stainless Beer Scout Knife in natural canvas Micarta please.

Would a clip point even work with an EO notch on this model? If not, a spear will do.

I have one of the radio jacks and the clip is pretty easily pinchable without the notch

I think they'd have to do a clip point without the EO notch. Either way, I think a clip or spear would be cool. Stainless would be a nice variation, too.

I pulled out my Beer Scouts, Soda Scout and Crown Lifter for some group pics today. I think my aesthetic favorites are the smooth ivory bone and the charred beer barrel oak. But the chestnut sawcut bone is very sweet, and could easily end up as the favorite on any given day. I’m fortunate to have two sawcuts. The ‘Most Used’ award easily goes to the natural paper micarta Soda Scout. It’s seen a ton of pocket time over the years, and an endless supply of beer caps.
