The Beer Scout Knife

Good to hear that the pull should be lighter. Not that it would slow me down too much opening a beer. :)

I started noticing this issue on the shields as they were being produced. Not sure why so many turned out this way.

GEC has made so many knives based off this pattern that they have close to perfected the process. Even the first runs were essentially flawless and about as close to custom quality as I've seen in production knives. I have had a couple with uneven back springs and this run with the new large shield may have posed some challenges I suppose. Personally, I would just use it and let pocket wear solve the issue, but if it bothers you send it back or buy another one!

Judging by the speed that these are not flying off the shelves, either people are busy with holiday celebrations or they may finally have met the market demand for 15 pattern knives (or knives with bottle opener/screw drivers). For a while, I thought all I would need to do to fund my retirement was sell my collection of them.

The shields might have just been very slightly overbuffed. Makes one side look more shallowly stamped/engraved.

In truth am not a fan of "Beer Scout Knife" on the shield they should of stuck to just "scout" but have always wanted a #15 with she sheepsfoot blade and the screwdriver so was good opportunity to snag one, think GEC should be careful pacifying the ideas of fanboys and stick to the timeless style of their knives, listening to your customers is one thing, but there can be a tipping point to that.

My thoughts exactly, and I am sure many others on these forums feel the same way. But I have ordered a couple... why? Well I think this pattern has an inherent appeal, the bail, the bottle opener, the slightly quirky label. It gives this knife personality which is lacking from many of GEC's offerings. I think I will start a new thread on this as its not quite on point.

I think the shield fits the Sunbrite knives, but not so much on the other materials. But in time I think it will just be accepted as part of the character of this run of 15s. Really starting to like the tourtious shell. May have to pick one up.

Man, you are over thinking it I think. Just buy one and enjoy it or don't.

USPS updated my Sunbrite's tracking, today: It made it to a local facility at 6:40 pm today (and here I thought they didn't work on July 4th). So I didn't get to use it today, but it shouldn't be too long and at least it should get here before the micarta SFO or the ebony one. :)

This is exactly what I think has happened. When the Sawcut bone version comes out they probably won't have this issue.

When all is said and done, a pocket knife is simply just that, a pocket knife.

There was a lot of people wanting another run of a knife with the caplifter but that's about where it ended. I never recall seeing a thread or post from GEC asking what the "fanboys" wanted. Or what the shield should say. Or if a bail was necessary. Or what handle materials should be on this knife. Pretty sure they came up with all of that on the their own and it's going to be a major seller.

Didn't you get the knife as a gift anyway?? That's good because you weren't a customer and didnt spend any money on this knife. Makes your whole point moot.

Now open a beer with it and enjoy it!!!!

^This.

(Oh, and I guess I'm a "Fanboy":D now, I'm sure GEC has my phone tapped to see my needs are met:eek:)

(They are, in fact, "flying off the shelves" if you look at the early reserves, it's just a very big run of knives, and most of us are glad to see dealers have a few, for pete's sake, they've only been for sale for 5 days!)

My sunbrite is a little overbuffed on one end of the shield, no biggie.
