The Beer Scout Knife

Back to discussing the knives, please.

Email notice about 8PM Pacific that my Sunbrite shipped! So, with the holiday, maybe Tuesday. Waiting to compare the glowiness to my knifebrite Radio Knife; and to try orange paracord....

Well, well, well...seems the usps made it ahead of schedule (), and I'll be poppin' caps all weekend! I guess I'm among the first 5 to get one, so I'm feeling pretty lucky.

First impressions, in case you're on the fence: Very well made knife! Not that I expected any less. Centering perfect on both blades, great finish on the acrylic, looks are stellar with that long pull, not needed with the EO, pull is about a 4-5. Brass liners look really good with the sunbrite. GEC hit another home run, that you to all the GEC employees!

Received mine today, it's pretty cool. I'm wishing I had bought two, one for the safe and one for use. I love the easy open notch, so nice!

These Sunbrites are looking good. I expect mine after the weekend. I like the added touch GEC did with the tube label and the special BSKC button.

Very cool, Trev and Brad! The bar is set pretty high for me, coming off the Northwoods #15s. We will see.

Thanks Phil! What, you've never seen a gun wielding, masked cat riding a laser-eyed, fire breathing unicorn?:D Fantasy Factory by Karben4, Beer Scout Knife by GEC. Life is good!

I received my Sunbrite acrylic Beer Scout earlier this week and love it. I am new to traditional knife collecting and this is one of my first GECs. So far, it seems to be a winner and is a great knife to share with friends. The one thing I did notice on mine is that the depth of the "Beer Scout Knife" stamp on the shield seems to be a bit uneven. Not a big deal as it adds the to "one of a kind" aura around the knife. Has anyone else noticed this on their knives, and is this a normal issue for hand made GEC knives? Again, I am new and have no real past experience with this. Thanks!

Brad, I am crackin' up over that friggin' beer label! LOL

Nice knife and photo, my friend.

I love this label, but I had no idea it came off a beer bottle. My 11 year old nephew is sending it out on Instagram!

I can't see your photo, but I have certainly seen tang stamps and Barlow bolsters come out of GEC with uneven depth or variations. If it is bad enough you consider it a "second" then send it back to the dealer for an exchange.

Meanwhile, I'm awaiting the SFO scouts. Here is a photo from GEC showing natural linen Micarta. If I am correct, this will be showing up on a "soda scout" pretty soon.

I'm hoping it keeps that nice deep color on the final product. It might come out darker in the middle and lighter around the edges, like some previous GEC Micarta. Can't wait to see it!

I think that little variation in color for the micarta will give it that old time look to go with the script. Should look pretty sweet!!

1200 miles away from home on a 4th of July family trip. All these awesome pics of people's new Sunbrite Beer Scouts is torture knowing I have a tube at home - waiting for me. At least I have my Radio Jack on me.

Was not sure if I would like the Sunbrite but wow. Can't wait to get my hands on it. Love the bail too.

For those who have actually handled a Beer Scout - what would you rate the pull of the Caplifter at?

I have a 1st run Radio Knife and the Caplifter is around a 8 in pull. Clip blade is a 6 or so, but that caplifter can be a bear sometimes.

Curious about this too, the 2011 forum knife I had I sold because the caplifter was nearly impossible to open.

Great first post-- welcome to the Traditional subforum. :)

Now that I can see your pictures, I understand better what you mean by the shield. I haven't seen that effect (heavier stamping on one side than another) on a GEC knife before, but then, neither have I seen such a long string o' text on a shield before!

I would regard this factor in the same spirit in which you seem to be, an idiosyncrasy of production and not an insurmountable flaw.

This particular pattern, with all its whimsy, seems to beg for use (not that any and all GECs wouldn't stand up to it!)....

[I'm slowly being wooed, even though I do not prefer beer.]

Again: Welcome!

For what it is worth, I have a couple Radio knives & Radio Jacks. The Radio Jacks do open easier, but the Radio knives aren't bad at all.
