The Beer Scout Knife

My sunbrite and tortoise showed up yesterday..........decisions, decisions. Which one to carry! I must say they are quite different in performance though. The sunbrite is about a 4 pull with a soft open and close and a very loose bail that flops around. The tortoise is about a 6 pull with a heavy snap and a very tight bail that only moves when force is a applied to it. I prefer a heavier snap in my knives but the sunbrite is sooooo cool looking and would be easier to find if dropped around a campfire at night. I guess I'll have to wait for the bone to show before making any rash decisions. :D

I would be soooo cool if GEC was able to mix some of that sunbrite material into the tortoise. Then the yellow of the tortoise would glow with very interesting patterns at night, each one truly unique.
I keep looking at the tortoise BS...but I should wait first for the ebony and one of Mikes SFO's.

Just to let everyone know, there was so much oil in both my new knife's joints when I received them that it made the operating of the blades slow or sluggish. Once I washed out the joints and re-oiled them, all changed for the better. Great snap on both now, like a new knife should be. Can't wait for my smooth bone either!

Yes, saw this posted on their site yesterday. Looks like there will be some variation in the smooth bone, which I think is great.

Mine came in today. It looks just like everyone else's EXCEPT that I took a little automotive lacquer thinner and managed to remove most of the black coloring from the lettering on the shield so that it doesn't stand out so much. Nice little knife as are all the #15s - melts in the pocket so to speak.

I could not resist and got a Sawcut Bone one. This is going to be a very expensive month. First GEC I bought since the #77 forum knife landed.

The 2-day shipping took USPS 6 days, but my Sunbrite finally arrived yesterday and is in my pocket, today.
Field testing has gone well, so far. Not a thing wrong with it that I can tell. Time to make a lanyard while I wait for Micarta and ebony models (if I can resist the other ones in the meantime).

Tortoise was finishing up and the final bit didn't ship from the factory until Thursday; which means most dealers didn't get them until yesterday. A few of the chestnut shipped to the small orders on Thursday but the big part of them won't ship from the factory until tomorrow. They are just getting going on the smooth ivory, so don't expect the biggest part of them to ship from the factory on Friday. Beer glasses had to come UPS (at least to me) so I am getting my first batch today (crossing fingers).

Thanks Mike. Thought my Tortoise was waiting on the beer glasses or both on the smooth ivory. Sorta like pouring honey outta bottle. You know it's gonna get there and it's gonna be sweet.

My knife actually got to my local post office early (9 AM) yesterday morning but wasn't delivered until today. We only have four people (that includes the Post Mistress) that work the post office and a few contract mail deliverers for the areas outside town. Two of the four took vacation Monday so no packages were delivered yesterday - not even Priority Mail. It's all good. One of the quirks of living in a small town.
