Beautiful Todd! Wish I had kept mine but can't keep them all and I think I'll enjoy the smooth too. Quirky,,,yes! Gimmicky,,,yes! Do I wish I had a saw cut,,,,YES!!

Hey Relee, glad you were able to bring back the snap! I don't use soap and water though. I use Birchwood Casey gun scrubber to wash mine out first. Then I blow it out with compressed air, then add the oil but if your system works, all that matters.

Only 778 posts before you that you need to read. Pretty sure it's just the GEC #15 pattern, not another scout knife and go back a few pages for the origin.

Read elsewhere here that the Beer Scout pattern was based off an unofficial Boy Scout knife. Want to say it was an offering by Remington.

778 posts prior to mine I do not see any mention about who coined the phrase "Beer Scout". I want to say it was Esnyx made the 1st version by modding a GEC #15 Scout. Not sure though, and if he also came up with the name.

I think the SFO #15 Radio Knife, and possibly the Tidioute #15 Crownlifter pre-date any of the mods that ESNYX did.

Esnyx made the "Beerlows" with brass bolsters and Mammoth Ivory and a couple other scale variations. GEC put the screwdriver/cap lifter blade in some Scout knives for the 2014 GEC rendezvous.

I think you might be right on at least one part of that Bob. Heck, regardless it is still a cool knife. I do wish they'd just made the shield with just "Scout" on it but what the hey, we can't have everything. I took out most of the black coloring in my shield to tone it down and it looks better to my eyes anyway.

Nope, t'was I who created the first sheepsfoot/caplifter combo last June, and had made around another 10 by the time the rendezvous rolled around. ;)

Always love seeing that beer scout, Sarah. What a beautiful piece.

Bob - start reading from page 4 of this thread and go through oh say page 6 or 7. Evan as he says in the quote did the first sheepsfoot/caplifter and it was Evan who coined the name "Beer Scout". Just for the heck of it, I read the whole thread again yesterday - pretty interesting stuff here.

Had the same problem, Singing, that you had. Very sluggish snap. I took your advice and cleaned the knife with soap and water. Used a pipe cleaner to scrub the channels, and was surprised to see how much black gunk came out on the pipe cleaner. I oiled that baby up with some mineral oil, and walah! mission accomplished. Nice snap like you'd expect from a GEC knife. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hey, I'm waiting on a smooth bone too.....can't wait.
Yes I had to wash mine twice because black stuff would come out from between the springs as I was working the blades. Now it's very smooth and just about perfect, a very well made little knife!

My assertion that the #15 Radio Knife and the #15 Crown Lifter pre_date the "Beer Scout" is correct. The #15 Crown Lifter was released in April 2014 and the Radio Knife before that. Although neither of them had a Sheepsfoot Main Blade.

Upon thinking about it for a bit Bob, of course you're right as Evan did not make any caplifter blades so he had to take them from knives made before he started modifying them for himself. Now, I do believe him when he says he was the first person to pair a sheepfoot blade with a caplifter blade of course gathered from existing GEC knives.

Anybody got any new pictures of knives they have actually received?

Welcome, but as a rule we are not allowed to discuss that. PM sent.

Thanks. I used the same list and the first resource on the list for my first GEC. I just didn't know if you folks in-the-know had a more direct preferred source. I am looking forward to receiving my order - maybe today :)

rma100 & Modoc ED - thank you gentlemen & Beer Scout Scholars.

I thought it was Evan, that modded the first ones - was unsure about the name though.
