The Beer Scout Knife

Ivory Bone?

I was going to start a new thread but I'll keep it here. What's ivory bone? Seem as if the experts want to tell the difference between them.

Here's my Ivory and Ivory bone.

Mike

Hey Mike, great side by side shot. I'm guessing Ivory bone is another fancier name for cow bone.

Let's see, undyed camel bone, smooth Ivory bone, all the same really!
Camel has such density variances that it probably wouldn't be well suited for smooth ivory bone.

Been a long time since I seen a camel run thru the local livestock auction ring :D

Smooth Ivory Bone is bovine bone treated to take that creamy ivory look.

You're not late to the party at all. They are available through distributors. Some of us pre-ordered, but there are some available now for purchase.

Do the sponsor or preferred distributors have forum pages? I struck out looking for them on the forums list.

I am also waiting for the soda scouts to hit the production floor! I have a commitment in for one in the blood red sawcut bone. I have only seen a couple photos on the web that I think are this handle type. Can anyone in the know confirm that this is GEC's blood red sawcut bone?

If that's what they come out looking like I'm gonna be seriously ticked! I LOVE my 77 Barlow in "Old Red Sawcut Bone". The other GEC's with "Blood Red bone" have all been too... well... vanilla for my taste without much variance. If Mike says we should expect the above, then I'm going to have to arrange a trade or scrape up the $ for a thrid beer scout!

Thanks all for posting your thoughts about Ivory bone.

What ever it is I am loving it.

Mike

Now to wait on the micarta version. Might leave the bail on the bone and take it off the micarta. Do you just open it with pliers and is it able to be put back on?

With the knife sitting on a towel, I'd carefully grab each side of the bail with a pliers, and open the bail up. You'll be able to put it back on, but it could be slightly kitty-whompus, depending on how it came off. (could use a vice and one pliers, but be careful the knife doesn't drop to the floor!)

Nice looking bone. A little early on that Oktoberfest, but Spaten is tasty any time of year, eh?:D

Well this dandy showed up from Oklahoma today (shrunk wrapped in a mighty well secured package might I add)...it's already liberated a Community Public Ale from the cold clutches of my fridge...

Figured I would go Oktoberfest and hope this home run derby magically turned into a college football game.

Great knives. It's going to be difficult trying to determine which on is a gift for a friend. The saw cut is my favorite right now.

I'm thinking I actually like the saw cut more than my ivory bone. Not normally a fan of saw cut, but these are nice.

The nice thing about that smooth bone is that a feller could put some real scrimshaw decoration on there. Especially the back side where theres more blank canvas.
