The Beer Scout Knife

I'm giving the smooth bone a proper initial testing tonight. Working great so far.

Just purchased a saw cut bone. Had a hard time deciding between the saw cut and cocobolo... I hope I don't get mine in hand and wish for the other...

You guys are KILLING me with the smooth ivory bone! Looks incredible.
In related news. . .
Cocobolo in the mail on its way to me!
Thanks,
Brian

I've been looking at the natural linen micarta on the bull nose. I think that may be the sleeper on this knife. Hoping so anyways. They all look great so far though.

For comparison from top to bottom: 1) Smooth Ivory Bone 2013; 2) Smooth Ivory Bone 2015; 3) Undyed camel bone 2015. The Smooth Ivory bone from 2013 has darkened some in 2 years, but as my friend Bob tells me, the bone is dipped in oil by GEC, and some wicks up more oil, and in different patterns, than others.

You guys kill me with your photo skills.

I tried to show the depth of the bone ivory. Maybe you can get a feel for it. I also tied a couple of lanyards to see what you think. They work great if you carry the knives in slips. They make extraction so easy.

Should the lanyards go or stay?

Oh yeah, the lanyards look great, Greg! Glad yours arrived Relee, thanks for the comparison shots! I like how that #85 has aged over two years.
I like using lanyards without slips. Makes sense for my pocket anyway.

I think the lanyards look good. I have no idea how to tie one and generally don't like them except on a sebenza, but I really think it might look good with no bail and a lanyard through the hole.

Are you tipsy yet, tdkfm?:p
Brian, the wood does look mighty fine on those!
NJBillK, I wish I had gotten a saw cut but I'll just enjoy looking at yours when it arrives.I personally think you made the right choice!

Just moved on to a yuengling summer wheat a friend brought me this weekend. I will sleep well tonight thanks to the beer scout and 5:30 will come too early.

Yuengling is good stuff tdkfm, 5:30..not so much but a beer a day keeps the nightmares away. Really great comparison shots posted as of late

I tied this lanyard tonight with a CRK knot and a couple of off white beads.

Okay. That's it. The white bone shall be mine. I have a nice pocket sheath that has space for a fixed blade and a 15. I will have a cocobolo H10 and a beer scout, but my white pioneer bone H10 needs a friend too. . .

Incoming order Mike! Pick me out a pretty one![emoji6]
Thanks,
Brian

Can anyone recommend me a good pocket sheath for the Beer Scout? Does the sheeps foot blade sticking out a bit cause an issue with the fit?

I am carrying mine in a small Thunder Basin Knives (South Dakota) a cross draw belt sheath.

I like the whiteish beads but I'm not too sure of the one next to the bail. I guess it's meant to keep the lanyard tight to the bail or does it float around?

Mostly to keep snug on the bail. But I am still experimenting with it. This one is leather--I am going tie a couple with para chord and see what happens.

This is the first bail knife I've had and I am really warming up to it.

True. It probably would look good using the bail hole...but I really, really like the look of the bail. Maybe someone could show us all a lanyard minus the bail.

Mine too and it feels great warming up to it or on a hot summer's day, chilling out with it's intended use. Bottled water of course.
